3D Models of Atari Computers & Peripherals

Does anyone have any .DXF (or other 3D) data files representing Atari equipment?

If a library of these models was created, the resultant rendered images could give future Atari-oriented programs a really polished look.

If you have any (regardless of format), or would like to make some to share with the world, this is a good place to put them.

You just want to have your Atari draw itself on a Tek 4014, don't you? :D

ha, yeah, that would be cool, but culling them would be a major bitch though. Actually, I was thinking about making a front-end to the new version of atari800, & thought that it would be great to just be able to render iconic representations of hardware to any perspective view, so the pictures of each piece of equipment would be uniform in perspective, scaling, and lighting.

I've never seen blueprints... but I would imagine that Curt has...

I couldn't find any models for download there

You can´t, because there aren´t any. As the picture says it is still work in progress. I am doing work on that too, but it will take some time. Just wanted to show that there are people who care about that issue.

Thanks. It took around three hours throughout the day. It would have been much faster but I couldn't find a straight black and white image of the keys, so I had to make up that graphic myself. I also don't have a real 800 present so I had to rely on the loose patent drawings and Internet pics, many of which are from about the same angle.

Wow, that was fast, you know your stuff!

If you were to design a 1200XL, then the whole XL line could be replicated based on that geometry file, since the case styling is practically the same for all of the XLs, just with different case lengths & ports, for the most part.

Can you share the .DXF files with the Atari community, so that we can devote more time to sussing out all of the little details? If so, then we would really have a great tool to make future Atari-oriented software have a great look.

Thanks, I know that that the creation of that 3D file took a good deal of thought, experience, & technique to pull off in that short of a time-frame!

I'll be distributing it somehow. First I have to package it in a decent format with texture maps, probably .OBJ or FBX as that it's not a single mesh and has two maps. Is there any Atari-Themed site which could host it and maybe other models that this thread might generate?

Unfortunately, I won't be able to provide a 1200 model, at least not soon, as that I have other projects which are approaching deadline and demand my full attention.
