+atari2600land
I made a little YouTube video about the game so far. You can find it right here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrEYdauWZtc
the.golden.ax
Just got the VB Kiosk out of storage. This is going to be running on a Kiosk soon! AX
+atari2600land
Great! Here's the version you should use: latest Insect Combat build
the.golden.ax
How hard is it to make character sprites on VB? I don't have much for programming skills, but I'm good at pixel art on art programs. AX
+atari2600land
You can draw anything you want up to 384x224 pixels in like Paint or something, I have a program that converts it to three colors and creates VB-compatible code. Note that I don't want the characters that big, something in the range of 75x75 pixels is how big I want them to be. Also, I have someone else who would want to help, but I'd love to see what you can come up with, maybe I'll use it. The image file type I want is bmp. +atari2600land
Here's a fun fact: I stole the title screen song. It's the first part of "Blues For Newport" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet from the album "Last Set at Newport."
+atari2600land
A little update. You can now press start to pause the game mid-fight. Pressing select while paused takes you back to the title screen. I was having some difficulty not being able to play the music once the game has been reset, but I think I resolved that issue. I tested it in a FlashBoy, and all seems to be working fine.Download here: Insect Combat page. +atari2600land
Hi, after a two-month or so hiatus, I'm back working on this again. It was simply a case of burning out my brain so much I didn't want to work on it any more, so I just took a break from it.
+Propane13
Sometimes it's good to power through, and sometimes it's good to take a break. What are you working on for it specifically?

+atari2600land
Updated the website for this game and added a new ROM so you can see what I've been up to: http://www.atari2600...m/aegis/ic.html Works in Mednafen as well as a real VB tested with a FlashBoy. Here is a picture of Gi-Ant. All the fighters, including this one, will be designed by "morintari" of the PVB forums.
the.golden.ax
Hey if you want someone to do voice over work, I'm in. AX
+atari2600land
Hi, unfortunately the only way to do voice on the VB (at least for now) is to pause the game action, insert the voice, and then resume. So if I wanted a voice in, it would have to be something like in Galactic Pinball. Maybe a high-pitched, almost Chipmunk sounding voice saying "Insecticide!" when you press Start would be cool. +atari2600land
Since ants are black, I'm deciding whether or not to make him black in the game, too. And, judging from my avatar, I should put a zyzzyva in the game too! He'd be almost a perfect fit for the Virtual Boy since he's mostly red and black! +atari2600land
New version up. You can get it here: http://www.atari2600land.com/aegis/ic Note: If you don't pick Gi-Ant as both the fighter and the opponent, things may not work correctly. This is because Gi-Ant is the only fighter programmed in so far.
+atari2600land
Changed the title screen a little bit. What do you think? Edited January 1, 2012 by atari2600land
+Propane13
This is looking better and better. I don't have a VB emulator or flashcart (I'm guessing a lot of folks here don't), so attaching pix/vids in my opinion is the best way to show off what you've done. There's a lot of promise here-- keep it up! -John
+atari2600land
I made the Insecticide logo in 3D as well as made the background more in the back and the foreground more in the front. From these pictures you can't really see the 3D-ness I've (tried to?) put in the game, so your best bet to see this in all its glory is a FlashBoy since Mednafen doesn't have oscillating mirrors and the stuff that creates the 3D effect like the Virtual Boy. Please download the game so far here and tell me what you think of the 3D effect. http://www.atari2600land.com/aegis/ic
eddhead
Wow, can't believe this slipped under my radar! Keep up the good work, looking forward to the finished game!!
+atari2600land
Hi again, here's a little update. +atari2600land
Hi, right now, I've changed the music in the beehive (which will be Rumblebee's home arena) to "Flight of the Bumblebee," which I found fitting. And I've also got the backgrounds to scroll like I wanted them to (the background scrolling independently from the foreground.) Link to ROM & code is in my signature. +atari2600land
I changed the speed of the characters walking and jumping. I felt that it was going way too slow. Link to ROM and code in my signature.
+atari2600land
I forgot to tell you, the jumping animation for Gi-Ant is now in the game. http://www.atari2600land.com/banana/ic.html
