Thanks to a violent cold/flu/whatever as well as a serious stomache issue, we come to the finals of the 2009 Shodown a few days into 2010. Well, if it's good enough for the NFL, it's good enough for me.

Anyway, it's an all-shooter finish with Galaga facing off against Defender. Two very different examples of the genre. Which will emerge triumphant?

I voted for Galaga. I never really enjoyed Defender much. I always thought it had WAY too steep a learning curve, not to mention way more buttons than necessary. I can play Galaga for hours (I know because I have!).

Defender all the way. I don't know why, and it's kind of sacrelidge, but I've just never had that much fun playing Galaga.

I love both games, and I can play a mean game of Galaga. But in all seriousness, while Galaga is just as playable on a home console as it is in the arcade, to me here is just more depth and reward (and fun) in playing the actual Defender cabinet once you master flying your ship. The sense of control and freedom you get as well as the intensity of the battles in the later stages are something that Galaga doesn't quite match. Different games altogether though :)

Course these days, being able to find an actual Defender cabinet to play on is the exception for almost all of us. :(

Galaga. A easy to learn SHMUP, that never seems to get old.
