Help me remember an old RPG

I'm trying to track down an RPG. It might have been for the Apple 2, but perhaps it was for something a little more obscure like the TI99. Heck, it might have been a DOS game. The odd thing about it was it was released well after the heyday of classic RPGs. I think it was done by a single guy as a kind of labor of love. When he finally completed it he released it as freeware. He might even have had a web site dedicated to it, that is his own .com just for the game. It might have been black & white with very primitive graphics. And I think it was in the style of Bard's Tale, Wizardry, Might & Magic, that sort of thing.
