1980gamer
I know it has a scoring bug @ 1,000,000 points I think? I have only played up 450,000 and was getting a little sick of playing. I had 250 extra ships and no end to the game in sight. But I could never play long enough to more than double my score. I'd be astro-SMASHED! Maybe a Super Pro version with some new enemies, maybe a harder 7th level added.... and a SAVE GAME option would bring me back to this game. I think the Atari version is harder. Or maybe it's just that darn controller and 1 button. LOL Has anyone tried the hand held with the new astrosmash? I have it but never got around to hooking it up yet. jaybird3rd
I remember the version of Astrosmash on the handheld as being very disappointing (as were most of the games on those handhelds, quite frankly), but it's been a while since I looked at it so I'll have to dig it out again. As for the Atari version ... did you know you can play it with the paddle controllers as well as the joystick? Using the paddle really adds an interesting twist to the game (no pun intended). I agree that the Intellivision version could use some upgrades, but perhaps they would be better discussed in your other thread. At minimum, though, they would have to include a scoring bug fix and an on-screen indication of what level/variation is being played, something similar to the dot codes used by BurgerTime. This last feature in particular would have saved Mattel a lot of money, judging from the last "fun fact" on the official Astrosmash page. As it is, though, Astrosmash isn't very interesting as a candidate for the High Score Club (at least in my opinion): with enough practice, you can essentially keep going forever, and there's no way to tell what level of difficulty was being played. cparsley
Yes, there really isn't a "flip" as LNC or BurgerTime would do, due to a glitch that instead spit out symbols instead of numbers. It is also possible to have the symbols up in Sharp Shot if you push the arrow or spaceship levels hard enough to go over 99.

Good point jaybird3rd. I have been reading about intellivision stuff on the web since 1995/96 Before the first emulator was out. But I am new to writing in the forums. Please forgive the learning curve. I am "old school" after all. Or is that just OLD? Oh, Doesn't everyone start intellivision games with the disc? They are tooooooo slow otherwise. In the Timed astrosmash, I wonder if it was player choice? I would think starting at level 1 and only playing for 5 minutes ( I think? ) it would be advantageous to play at the fastest speed... No? Hmmm, I wonder how I would have done it back when I was 10 or 11? Gene

It's no problem; I just didn't want any new ideas about Astrosmash to be left out of the other thread. It's funny about the Intellivision method of starting the game with the keypad or the disc: I am a relative newcomer to the Intellivision, and when I started playing the games (without reading the manuals, of course), I would always press the disc because that's the way I thought it was supposed to be done. When I later learned about the easier options, they seemed painfully slow to me because I had already gotten used to the higher speeds.
