Intellivision Lives! 2.0 for PC/Macintosh

Recommended Posts

I just learned that Intellivision Productions is planning an "updated, upgraded version" of their Intellivision Lives! collection for the PC and Macintosh, scheduled for release in July 2010. The current version (1.1) is on sale for 50% off on their web site, and registered owners of 1.1 will be able to buy 2.0 at 50% as well:

They mention that the new Macintosh version will be OS X native, but otherwise, there's no information yet on what the differences will be between 1.1 and 2.0. I'm especially curious to know if the game lineup will be any different.

from the website:

" In a three-year roller-coaster ride, Intellivision soared into three million homes and made tens of millions of dollars - then crashed and almost bankrupted the company. "

I didnt realise that intellivision almost bankrupted a major toy maker!!!?

Well, Mattel Electronics took a $300 million loss in 1983, which would be a major blow for any company. I'm sure their success with Masters of the Universe helped to keep them afloat.

Well, that and Barbies. icon_mrgreen.gif

Some more information on Intellivision Lives! 2.0: it will include the IntelliVoice and ECS games from the Intellivision Rocks! collection.

I had guessed that they might do this, since they could not re-negotiate the license for the Activision and Imagic games in Rocks! and are therefore limited to selling the copies that they still have in stock. Rather than allowing the whole Rocks! collection to go out of circulation when their stock runs out, it only makes sense to pull out the games that they own and integrate them into a new version of Lives!.

They're also upgrading the user interface, which I think would be a good thing; Version 1.1 is over ten years old now and is probably due for a refresh.
