Cleaning a Cartridge Label

Is it possible to remove what appears to be "coloured" marker/ink from a cartridge label?

I picked up a cart recently that had white label (text) to which someone has so eloquently filled in the "white text letters" with what appears to be a coloured pen or marker.

Is there anyway to remove the so-called ink/marker back to its original white condition without damaging the label? Will I be stuck with the rainbow of colours so to speak...hah...

Any cleaning advice is well appreciated.

Not sure if this stuff works. I have not tried it, but if you want to "give it a shot" and post results that would be great.

Please note, I have no affiliation with this seller. This is just a product I have seen sold while searching "colecovision" on Ebay.

Depends on what kind of marker was used. You'll probably have to experiement, and take a risk that you might also remove ink from the label. I've had success with 91% rubbing alcohol, which removes "Sharpie" brand ink, and some others. "Goo Gone" removes crayon and other wax-based colors. You can always use an abrasive like a pencil eraser for some things. Any of these could possibly damage the label, so be prepared for the chance it might not work out as you want. You can also find an image somewhere and print a new label, either with your computer or at a print shop like Kinkos.

In some cases, you just have to live with marker on your cart labels.Thirty + year old ink and paper is very sensitive obviously. One good piece of advice i give is to put a small amount of what ever you use on the RAG 1st before cleaning, NEVER directly on label! On shiny not so porous labels like some of the ColecoVision labels, i apply a tiny watered down drop of Goo-Gone on rag and rub gently.Be very careful with how much and how you use Goo-gone, that stuff is extremely strong, more that most realize.Water or alcohol I've used, but again use sparingly.I don't use Goo-gone at all on the older, porous labels.
