Until Mr. Darthkur gets back, Let's rock some Asteroids!







Someone once said the the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately three thousand, seven hundred and twenty to one. Now is not the time to dwell upon the odds but of survival because you find yourself smack-dab in the center of an immense field of asteroids. The hyperdrive on your ship must be acting up again because, not having a death-wish, you didn't exactly want to be pulverized by gigantic space boulders. To make matters worse you're not alone. There's automated ships about which are firing blindly to clear the space rocks to make preparation for a new hyperspace express route and they will just as soon shoot you as another piece of cosmic detritus. You could attempt another jump but who knows where you'll end up. Better leave that as a last resort. If you want to live you better start firing and keep out of the way of those tumbling masses of minerals and stone.


Emulators are fine as is whatever controller you feel the most comfortable with. Screenshots are great but not mandatory. Please do not use any cheat/hack options. These include auto-fire, unlimited lives, invincibility, etc. Also, no continues. Only games begun at the beginning count.

The game's easier when you understand the unspoken rules the game plays by.

1. Lives are lost in pairs.
2. Thrust and Warp are mislabels. They're actually suicide buttons.
3. Extra lives are just there to distract you from shooting.
4. If you're not shooting, you're dying.
5. If it's moving, it WILL hit you.
6. The smaller it is, the more dangerous it is.
7. Always shoot twice in the same direction. No bullet should fly alone.

First of all I deeply apologize for the delay in the new round, due to my absence. I'm alive and well but things have been quite discombobulated as of late. I admire Roadrunner's tenacity in keeping the 7800 HSC alive.

Believe it - i don't have this game.  Not sure why, I used to....I have asteroids deluxe and space duel.  Guess i will use an emulator.

Very true.  Rule 2 especially.  

I'll use these and your other rules to see if I can not suck at this game for once.

So I was trying some things on an incomplete SVideo mod which I haven't touched for a long time.  Got sick of trying to tweak it, and decided to play a game for the HSC.  I looked up the scores in this thread real quick and then fired up Centipede.  I eventually had a good game and scored 35,573, took a picture of it and everything.  I was pretty happy with it.
Unfortunately, that was the wrong game.

And I'm apparently not that good at Asteroids.

Never liked this game-- the moving in 22.5 degree increments and shooting, hyperspacing, and moving chaotically-- but I like the idea of breaking rocks and avoiding objects and it looks cool.  Perhaps, if the controls were linear like missile command, I would have played it more.
