Kinda a cute game, but the controls will take some getting used to.

Good score. I guess you had hit a drought for some time until this game. I haven't played this one before but just warm up score:

I intend to hit 50K at least before this contest ends. I guess I have time given the 8-bit HSC is still playing ixion which I don't intend to spend much time given its controls.

Here's an update. The game actually gets easier after the first two rounds of "butterflies." So you can get around 100K easily after. Initially I thought they get harder and harder.

Okay, improving but I made some bad mistakes trying to kill those butterflies on the top; it's better to wait for them at the bottom. Mario could have been made better in this game along with his collisions when the pests are on the edge and coming down.
The mario in Donkey Kong is non-flickering and smooth; this one flickers and lags along.

The Mario is better on the XE version of Mario Brothers and the game is harder as well.

I agree, the XE version is excellent, and even surpasses the NES version! The 5200 version has charm though, with some unique animation when hit by fireball; also how about those turtles in their underwear, before kicking their shell back on?! The sounds are also a plus in this version ;):

Yeah, slightly different play on A5200. You can hide in front of the pipes at the bottom and fireballs never get you nor the pests. But Mario looks like crap when you are in front of those pipes. Some sort of XOR screw-up.

Starting with the second "ice wave" bonus round, you only have 15 instead of 20 seconds to complete it. It's nearly impossible without the help of Luigi. I somehow did it once, after over twenty attempts. The pace picks up a bit after you pass 200K!

Great score Roadrunner, but the coyote is nipping at your heels :D  :

It does get easy once you get used to avoiding fireballs.

OK, I admit it. After 27 or 28 years, I admit it. These joysticks are lousy (for this game), and the lack of self-centering causes me to die when I shouldn't (in this game).

I'm using arrow keys. Just stay at the bottom and nibble away at the pests looks like the basic pattern for this game.
