SlowCoder Posted October 5, 2010 Share Posted October 5, 2010 I looked through the Getting Started manual provided by NIAD. It tells how to connect the ADAM or CV with expansion mod 3 to the RF. It does not explain how to connect to composite. It's easy enough to guess that I need to connect video to the "monitor" connection. How do I get audio? Through the "TV" connection? I haven't had time to try it, and I don't know if there is a special connector/adapter that is required. The connection labeled "MONITOR" is only for VIDEO, it does not provide an audio feed. You have three video connection options with the Stand-Alone version of the ADAM (the one with the built-in ColecoVision): 1) The "RF Output" connection for both audio and video that we all love to hate now-a-days because video quality isn't as good. 2) The "Monitor" connection which provides only video output via composite signal. This would have been used more so if Coleco had released their 80-Column Card which would have mainly been used for CP/M 2.2 and you didn't care about sound (or hooking up to multiple monitors with one of the other two Audio/Video options). 3) The DIN connection (is it a 5 or 7-pin DIN connection... I can't remember now) that provides a Composite Audio and Video signal for use with Composite or RBG Monitors back in the day or to TVs with somposite inputs. From time to time, the original Coleco released Monitor Cable is auctioned on eBay or you can use one that was made for other computers of the time like the C=64. Got nothing better to do these days. I work a full-time construction job for the gas company in Chicago and have been laid up after tearing some abdominal muscles. It's my pleasure to help out... as I used and abused the ColecoVision and ADAM Computer for some 16 years before I sold all my stuff off (works mistake in my life). BTW, NIAD stand for the "Northern Illiana ADAM Users Group" that was founded by Lyle Marschand in late 1984 and of which I was a member before being hired by Lyle to work in his computer store in early 1988. A couple of months later asnd I was running the whole user's group and editing the newsletter as well as managing the store. Over the course of NIAD's existence we had some 10,000 people join the group with probably about 3,000 the top number at any one time for the newsletter. We finally closed up NIAD in 1994 after I had to get a real job in the real world. As far as the video output, the ADAM doesn't have to be modded. You just need to find a monitor cable (5 or 7-pin DIN on one end and RCA Video and Audio Jacks on the other end).
