Here's my fastest time to 1 MILLION POINTS for statistics (Ultimate Yars with Difficulty B) - 48min20sec.

OYAMAFAMILY'S STRATEGY:

- Read carefully the tips and strategies showed on previous HSC for Yars' Revenge.

- Get at least 5 TRONS to make the cannon appear. TRONS are units of energy which you can get at the following way: 1 TRON for each cell from the shield, 2 TRONS via touching the Qotile, and 4 TRONS via catching the Zorlon Cannon shot after it bounces off the shield (according to the manual). The maximum number of TRONS which Yar can collect is 255, but PAY ATTENTION: this number is not displayed on the screen. To make the Zorlon Cannon appear, bounce the Yar against the left side. ATTENTION: If you press FIRE button accidentally, the risk of losing your life is EXTREME. Before shooting the cannon, keep away the Yar from the left side until the neutral zone region (but out and near this zone); at the moment you shoot the cannon, move the Yar vertically.

- ATTENTION: If the Yar is destroyed by Missile, Swirl or Zorlon Cannon, you will lose ALL the TRONS collected.

- Shields in RED (0-70,000 points) and GRAY (150,000-230,000 points): When the Qotile turns to yellow, and orange in sequence, keep away the Yar from the right side of the screen, and try to hit the Swirl in mid-air to score more points quickly and get extra Yars, but WATCH THE MOVEMENTS OF THE SWIRL. Also, BE CAREFUL WITH THE ZORLON CANNON when you shoot, and KEEP AWAY from Destroyer Missile.

- Shields in BLUE (70,000-150,000 points) and PINK (more than 230,000 points): The Qotile turns to the SWIRL when the colors are RED, BLUE, and LIGHT GREEN. In this situation, Swirl sometimes fires immediately. It's a good opportunity to max your lives via destroying the Swirl in mid-air and increase your score quickly. But BE CAREFUL with the Swirl, Destroyer Missile, and the Zorlon Cannon.

- Remember: after scoring 150,000 points, the Swirl will remain in mid-air to hit the Yar. When the Yar is in the Neutral Zone, you cannot operate fire commands or be destroyed by Missiles, but the Swirl, and the Zorlon Cannon destroy the Yar in the zone (according to the manual).

I got it tonight by accident... what I did was kill the flying swirl,
and align up Yars with the black line... and (continue to fly upwards)
then the screen stopped and I got the initials...

This time I killed the Swirl in mid-air 5 times before losing the First Life. My greatest intention is to try these Extreme Settings, and show my performance.

I'm not sure, but I think the black streak is at whatever horizontal position the cannon hit the swirl. So if you manage to hit the swirl in midair, don't fly away from it, try to stay near it. It took me a few tries to finally get it. And be sure to do it as close to the beginning of the game as you can, because the game ends when you get the initials, and you don't want to waste a high score on it!

Thanks.  I guess I always tend to aim for the swirly on the left side of the safety shield.  If I try for the Easter Egg again, it'll be just for the Easter Egg as I'm happy with my score and don't want to spend time trying to beat it.  I guess you're supposed to fly up once finding the streak.  I try to align Yars with the streak but then I don't know what to do, so I've been trying to go to the middle of the screen though the streak never seems to be perfectly aligned with the spot on Yars's back.

I never was perfectly aligned... i dont think that matters... but what i did was get onto that line and moved up the screen... up the streak/line. then the egg showed up.

I finally got the hang of defeating the Quotile/Swirl with the gray and pink shields.  I don't think I have another game in me and the deadline is tonight.  I'll just have to submit this and move on to next week's game.

I never really spent a whole lot of time playing this one until this week.  It was fun, though.  I really enjoyed playing Yar's Revenge.

I forgot how brutal the game god. I died after the thing changes directions 3 times. I kept on wanting to try to kill it, not roll back and forth off the screen to avoid it.

YARS' I'm in 4th place, at the moment... my first time out of the top 3 spot since the variety pack. Somehow I been pulling many rabbits outta the hat.    

I am quite happy with all my scores this HSC season. Only trouble was Mountain King, my game broke... and Phoenix internet was down, on the last two days to submit a score.

A little late, but I just found this.  I was playing Yars Return on Flashback 2+ and, when I hit the swirly in midair, I noticed a black streak and thought I'd try it.  Unlike Yars' Revenge, I found this Easter Egg in one try (notice the smiley face).

The specific way to get the Easter Egg is to place the Yar on the lower third of the line. You don't have to be moving, etc.


(Is anyone besides me a bit bugged that Debro messed with Warshaw's code like that?)
