Raiden (lynx)

2d gamer

Recommended Posts

It was released by Telegames on a PCB style cart and is about 90% complete, you can play through to the end. Its also played vertically like Klax and Gauntlet 3.

Personally I was quite disapointed by it, its good but could have been so much better with some extra polish. I really missed the classic music from the original game too.

Zarlor Mercenary is a much better game and can be had alot cheaper.

Hello. I hear good things about the lynx version of Raiden. Did this game officially get released as a curved lip cartridge? Homebrew? Alternate cartridge style? I hear it is rare, whatever form it comes in.

Thanks!!

The following are the ways it was released:

Black PCB 1 - Songbird's "Long Live the Lynx" board w/ external, square chip

Black PCB 2 - Telegames board with "internal" (flush with the circuit board) TSOP flash chip

Green PCB Green PCB 3 - Telegames with the large, encased PCB

Hard to find... yep.

Easier to find a cheapo version....

I can't get past the second level of Raiden. It's a beautiful game but not finding it very playable. Just lots of instant death. Anyone have any tips or codes for this? I'd just like to play it through and explore all the levels. I must say it frustrating to only be able to get to the second level of a game that was so pricey. I feel the same way about Zaku to be honest which is brutally hard (for me anyway) on easy mode. I'd agree that zendocon is much more playable, if not as pretty..

I'm pulling my hair out on this one any help would be much appreciated..

Raiden just is pretty hard. It's a shoot'em up classic and a direct arcade port, those tend to be hard. I still find it very playable, but naturally the small screen does not make it any easier on the Lynx. Maybe they should have added an easy mode in addition to the arcade mode. Maybe they would have, if they had finished it.

I haven't made it past level 2 either, but I think it is still fair. It is my skills that are lacking, and that is the good kind of hard. So while I suck at it, I find it more playable than Zarlor, and more fun than Zendocon.

Fair enough. It's just frustrating because I can get really far in the Jaguar version. My main gripe is there is so much stuff that just isn't avoidable. The sideways control layout does NOT lend itself to precision movement on the dpad, and the medium size ships and larger (of which there are many) all require a bomb to kill, and by the time you've deployed that you've been killed by one of the 30-40 shells they spit out.

I'd say the worst part is the beginning part of the first level. I can't get through it without loosing 3-5 lives. It actually calms down after that but your lives are picked off one by one by unavoidable enemies. Frustrating to the point of being annoying as it follows the 1980's video game programming school of thought "well if we can't make a long game lets just make it impossible to beat the first level or two".

It amazes me how many lynx games don't have any codes either. I keep discovering this when I look for them..
