OldAtarian
Does the ECS actually use any of the Intellivision hardware or does it just pass a video signal through the cartridge port? If it only passes the video signal through, might it be possible to do an A/V mod to it and use it as a standalone system?
jaybird3rd
The ECS Computer Adaptor isn't a standalone system. It contains only an extra 2K of RAM, a serial port (for the printer and cassette ports), a BASIC/OS ROM, and an extra AY-3-8917 sound chip and controller ports. The System Changer, however, is a self-contained 2600 clone that uses the Intellivision for power and video/audio passthrough. I'm sure that, with enough work, it's possible to get it running on its own, but I'm not sure it would be worth the effort when there are still plenty of 2600s around.
