Does Steve still sell it? I thought he had stopped selling it due to licensing reasons... or perhaps I misunderstood something?

I could be way off, I just thought I had read something about that somewhere which is why I didn't mention him in the first place.

Yeah, those suck. Might have to do that myself. I was getting as many as 70 a day last year... down to about 30 now... but still considering that it runs the mailer, then possibly having to time out at the login screen each time can take a few minutes - and that assumes that it doesn't occasionally crash it. Before that though I'm going to try logging it to see where they come from.

Most of the bot scans that hit port # 23 on my router are from China.

I changed YYZ BBS to port # 10002.

Here are my two boards again:

8-Bit Guild BBS: 8bitguild.no-ip.org:10001

YYZ BBS: yyzbbs.no-ip.org:10002

Hello all,

I apologize if this is the wrong thread. Feel free to tell me where to go, if I should post elsewhere.

I want to resurrect my BBS. Many years ago (in the 90s) I ran The Bates Motel BBS on my 130XE/MIO w/ BBS Express Pro. I took it down and am getting back into the 8bit. I have been looking at solutions and I really like the Lantronix solution. I understand the MSS-100 is now discontinued, but the DS-10 will work. What else would I need?

I need to find a new/used copy of BBS Express Pro as I sold/lost my copy two decades ago.

Thanks for your help

--------------------------------

MacRorie,

I currently use a Lantronix UDS-10 for my 8-Bit Guild BBS. Works great with BBS Express 1.0 (old skool).

I call out to boards using the UDS-1100. I've got it 'trained' with good settings to call perfectly using BobTerm or ICE-T terminals. Acts just like a modem!

Check it out, a podcast about BBSing. There is a lot of Atari mentioned in the episode 0 podcast and they plan to talk more about the Atari BBS scene!

http://www.edbbspodcast.com/

Electric Dreams BBS Podcast.

There is not an actual Electric Dreams BBS, but they do have a BBS forum at:

particlesbbs.hopto.org:6400

Particles BBS also has a webpage at http://www.particles.org

Changed my BBS port #'s again:

<8-Bit Guild BBS>

Telnet to: 8bitguild.no-ip.org:130

IP address: 99.116.104.171:130

<YYZ BBS>

Telnet to: yyzbbs.no-ip.org:65

IP address: 99.116.104.171:65

This should help work with various dialers and routers that only recognize port #'s that are 4 digits or less. These should fit in your dialers macro as well.

I chose port '130' since 8-Bit Guild runs on a 130XE and # '65' since YYZ BBS runs on a 65XE computer.

Enjoy your retro computing today!

This may be the wrong place to ask this..........but here goes.

My name is Steve Smith and I wrote a program for the Atari 8-bit computer called "Bumper Pool". The program was published and sold by Atari Program Exchange (APX).

I am now trying to find out where I can acquire a copy of the original software release APX Catalog Number 20053.

Please point me in the right direction to find sources. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hey all... I just uploaded another cool video of me using an Atari XM301 modem. I bought this classic 300 bps modem off of an Ebay dealer who listed it. The thing looks pratically unused and brand new. I used to own one back in 1985-87 before I upgraded to 1200 bps back then. This video is what I recorded today of the XM301 in action!

Here are some more previous demo videos I made of ICE-T and BobTerm terminals:

I was a 1030 person to start out with... Then I got the SupraModem 2400 and never looked back (until I got my Sportster 14.4k).

Never thought I'd be nostalgic for the old modem. I think I might have to get myself a magicjack and try it out again (there are still a few landline BBS's left actually!)

Just FYI... I changed the port on Star Fleet HQ to port 5983 (the last 4 of it's original phone number)..... As much as I wanted to keep it on port 23 I'm just getting too many bots/port scanners/whatever. I watched it all day the other day (pip on monitor 2 is such a great thing).... The BBS was almost constantly getting hit. By the time Binkley times out and everything resets... I'd say the BBS was practically occupied nearly half the day. (Granted, that's not always the case, but still, even on a slower day if it was 1/4 that, it's too much).

So please use that for calling while I test it. We'll see how it works.

Just FYI... looks like SFHQ will be down for a bit. The Falcon seems to have been a victim pf last night's thunderstorms. Not sure yet if the HD is ok. Will let you know more when I know more.

I had a similar thing happen to my 520ST, the storm took out my Supra 2400 modem plus the 1488/1489 IC's in the 520. Hopefully yours isn't as bad...

Well, at this point, I think the Lantronix box is ok. I lost the broadband modem (actually, the AT&T guy told me that as of 2pm today, there were over 100 service calls related to the storm just in my area alone). They got that back up so I don't have to rely on the cell phone. ;) From the looks of things, it was a power surge, not a network surge. When I try to power up the Falcon, I get a power light and the Floppy/HD light lights for about 2 seconds and then goes off and I don't get any keyboard click noises and no signal to the monitor. (I know the monitor is ok, since I use PIP with my main PC monitor and it's working fine). I have another Falcon and Mega STE but it isn't here at this apartment (still back at my old place) so hopefully I can get that sorted out soon (and then remember how I set up my router since I had to do some funky stuff on this one that I didn't have to deal with using my previous routers).

That all said, the thing that really sucks is that everything has been really great and stable since I changed the port to 5983. :( Of course, it's the slow season so it's not like anyone was calling anyway. :P
