RID YOUR GARDEN OF THOSE BOTHERSOME BUGS!

An army of menacing millipedes - cousins to the famed Centipede - have invaded your garden patch, and you must shoot arrows at them to rid your plot of these pesky pests. But wait! The millipedes aren't the only insidious insects you have to destroy. Jumping spiders, buzzing bees, bouncing beetles, mosquitoes, dragonflies, inchworms, and earwigs all have unique and deadly powers of their own!

Scoring Points in Millipede
  • Mushroom - 1 point
  • Millipede head - 100 points
  • Millipede segment - 10 points
  • Spider - 300, 600, 900, or 1200 points, depending on how close it is
  • Beetles - 300 points
  • Mosquito - 400 points
  • Bees - 200 points
  • Inchworm - 100 points
  • DDT Bomb - 800 points
  • Dragonfly - 500 points
  • Earwig - 1000 points
  • Each time you lose a bug blaster, you receive 5 points for every flower and every three mushrooms left on the screen.
  • When you shoot an inchworm, the movement of all the insects on the screen is slowed down for about four seconds.
  • Earwigs poison mushrooms on contact, and if a Millipede touches a poisoned mushroom, it'll charge straight down.
  • Expode the DDT at the right time, and the vapor will wipe out any bug it touches! For each bug that's destroyed by DDT, you'll earn triple the points you'd normally get for it.
  • You begin the game with three lives. For every 15,000 points you earn, you're awarded another life.

Hints and Tips

The Manual

As always, you really should read the manual. In case you don't have the manual, AtariAge has a typed copy and a scanned copy available online. Here are the hints it provides:

  • Make sure you keep your eye on the Millipede while you're getting rid of the other pests. The Millipede can sneak up on you if you're not careful, so keep it under control.
  • If a Millipede touches a poisonous mushroom - poinsonous mushrooms are colored differently from most - watch out! The Millipede will charge directly at you!
  • When the insects swarm, you're in for big trouble if you're not alert. Only a spider can enter the garden while the mosquitoes, bees, or dragonflies are swarming. You get 100 extra points (above the normal point value) for the second swarming bug you destroy, 200 for the third, and so forth - up to 1000 extra points per bug. But beware! Swarming bugs fly fast and furious!
  • Each insect has its own unique sound, so keep your ears open and you can anticipate what will be coming next.

We played this game once before in the High Score Club, you might want to check out that thread for more hints.

  1. Watch the movements of all enemies, specially spiders, beetles, mosquitoes, bees, millipedes, and dragonflies. Earwig and inchworm never touch your bug blaster.
  2. At 100,000+ points, the spiders jump lower. Shoot them quickly or avoid touching them. Speaking about spiders: they eliminate the mushrooms at the bottom of the screen; so, use this to take your advantage.
  3. Try to position your blaster at the center of screen. This action minimizes the risk of getting trapped by the bugs, specially on the corners.
  4. Try to reserve at least 2 DDTs, specially for the flying bug waves (bees, dragonflies, mosquitoes, and the combination of 3 different bugs). Once you reach these waves, try to shoot DDTs at the beginning of specific stages.
    • On bees waves, you MUST shoot twice to destroy this enemy. Bees will be more furious if you shoot accidentally with a single missile. Also, be careful when you reach 3-bug waves (bees, dragonflies and mosquitoes combination).
    • On dragonflies waves, shoot these enemies as many as possible to get more points.
    • On mosquitoes waves, the mushrooms move up each time you shoot this enemy. For this wave, try to clean the screen fully. This action will become easier to eliminate the millipedes (heads and segment) quickly on the subsequent wave.

[*]The maximum number of blasters in reserve displayed at the bottom of the screen is 7, but you can continue accumulating more bonus lives via scoring next multiples of 15,000 points.

[*]Once the inchworm appears, try to shoot this to decrease the movements of all the insects on the screen. This action helps to eliminate remaining millipede heads and segment on the current wave. The inchworm is very helpful when you are closer to reach flying bug waves.

Took quite a lot, to get passed 80ks. :P

I find it more difficult then Centipede, I always struggle with the Spiders.

Not my bread and butter games.

My Centipede best is the 158,000 range. I don't always have long gevity with 2600 games, I can burn out from getting tired. lol.

That may be why I did so well in the Activision variety pack

(Less than 2 mins of gaming) hahha
