NE146
Anyone else notice that Holmes Atari 8bit games page looks to have closed shop? There's a big "This Game is Over" sign on their site now... http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/atari/ Too bad.. they had a pretty good selection there
Alex
Looks like he called it quits about a week ago. I pulled this off Usenet: "Yep, the site is down as of late Friday night (NZ time). The ftp was getting so hammered, that it wasnt really working well. So I made the call to 'unplug' :-| Thanks everyone who has made the effort to help build up a mighty impressive collection of stuff. I hope everyone got some use out of the files, be it bringing back memories of your favorite games, or childhood, to those who like to just download 'everything' and never play them. Doesnt worry me which you were, as long as you had fun doing it! Thanks to the original authors of the games/utils, for giving us these great games, and some not so great. For without them, this scene wouldnt exist! Hopefully the other atari archive sites will remain active and will continue to serve the community with some great games. Check out the homesoft site for a good website with a big collection of games. To answer a few questions I keep getting asked, publically... Yes I am looking at getting the files online somewhere. Probably Tom Hunts FTP, but I need to talk to him first. No I wont do it 'right now', It'll be done when I get time, be that whenever it is. No I dont know when that will be!! To those offering to help mirror the site, thanks for the offers, but as I accepted around 4 people over the last 6 months to do this, and it hasnt happened. I'm not willing to waste anymore time trying to turn this into a reality. To everyone asking for the collection on CD, Yes I 'could' do a copy for you, but, I probably wont. Offers to buy the CD's 'may' get you a copy. Offers to trade for the CD's, will more likely get you a set than money will. I make no guarantee, that I'll accept your offer! Anyway, To those who I still have some 5.25" disks to transfer to ATR, these will be done asap, and you'll be sent a email with them. I apologise for how slow I have been doing these last ones. The website will turn back into a personal website over the next month, with only a small section on Atari games, probably my top 20 or something like that. Catchya around Aaron (aka.Holmes)"
