White Men Can't Jump

That's all I know. Wasn't there a Worms port for the Jaguar? Isn't that game multiplayer friendly?

You can play Worms with 4 players but you need 1 Controller

Or the MultiTap adaptor by Steven Moss. Looks a bit like a TeamTap, but designed specifically for Worms and only worms. Lets each player have their own controller even though the game only supports hotseat mode.

This would make Worms a lot more fun. Does the tap wire the controllers in series?

No, that is not even possible.

It monitors each controller port for a keypad button 9 press (not used by Worms).

When it detects that full access between the controller in that port and the Jaguar is permitted while full access to the other ports is blocked. The LEDs in to top of the unit show which port (numbered 1 - 4) is active and Worms Overlays with backgounds coded to team text colours are provided to help players identify which team they are and thus when it is their turn.

That's a excellent way of doing it, I wonder why Atari did not release something similar themselves.

Thanks, doing to that way also means it can be used to switch between attached controller types (i.e. Standard and Rotary) without constantly unplugging them (when not playing Worms).

Atari probably did not see a need for such a device for several reasons...

1) All multiplayer games prior to Worms either used the network or use software to scan the Team Tap controller ports as they are supposed to

2) IIRC Worms was an after market release so it is not clear how much Atari know about it and its lack of Team Tap support

3) If Atari did consider making something like that its limited usage (compared to the usage/advantage of using the Team Tap) probably made it unviable to produce

As a 4 player game Worms really should of followed the specifications in the documantation and made correct use of the Team Tap to support 4 players. I have no idea why it does not, maybe Telegames just did not think a single controller would be a problem with it being a turn based game.

As sad as it is, I'd be surprised if the number of jaguar owners who have hosted 4-player team tap experience exceeded a dozen

I don't think that the limited selection of games that use it are worth buying 2-3 extra controllers for the few occasions you'll want to use them. You'd have to be a hardcore NBA JAM TE fan who must play it on the Jaguar.

I think I used mine for 4 player NBA Jam once at JagFest and 2 player once with my sister but it rarely gets used as so few titles make us of it, Worms really should have and I can't stand White Men Can't Jump.

Thorsten wrote an 8 player lightcycle game for the Falcon that uses two of them, played that a few times at JagFest.

Welp, now I don't even know about using it as an extension cord. Was playing power drive rally last night and things got screwy (car shifting into reverse, options menu popping up in the middle of the race.) Removed the team tap and the game worked fine. It must be that some 1-2 player games don't like it, though a few I've played work fine with it.

I'm definitely getting a four player NBA jam session together sometime soon. Bummed about worms because that was my next choice.

Now we just need GAUNTLET for the Jag!!!

There is mention ghosting somewhere in the Jaguar Tech Ref documentation, because all the controller outputs on the Team Tap are ORed, although that specifically mentions it in regard to reading multiple controllers without a Team Tap attached it is possible that it could also occur with a team tap when reading a socket with no controller attached if an input is floating.

Having a quick look at the manual on AA Option and A which controller forward/reverse are on the same input pin so if there is a issue with a floating input I would expect B & C to also be randomly effected. I can't remember the circuit for the Team Tap at the moment, will have to trace it out again when I have time and add it to the Tech Ref document.

I remember seeing this before abd thinking it was an aftermarket team tap. Id be interested in one of these but it's out of stock and not being manufactured now. Oddly I have the overlays though. I f it's not being produced I wonder if team tap can be modded

Perhaps you purchased to overlays from 16/32 systems separately thinking that Worms was Team Tap compatible. Excluding my prototype there are 10 Multi-Taps out there somewhere, most are in UK/Europe a couple went to the US and the last one to Australia so you might find someone willing to sell one.

I would need at least 10 interested parties and a deposit to make another run due to the cost and so I think another run is unlikely, I could be wrong however I do not believe there is an obvious, simple and reliable method of modifying the Team Tap to make it work with Worms.

Hi Stephen,

I did ideed purchase overlays from 16/32 with a whole load of others. Nick didn't mention the multi-tap at the time so perhaps he thought I knew about it.

I'll put my name down for a unit. There you go peoples just 9 more of you required! How much would the deposit and the balance be?

Many thanks.

Put me down as #2!!!

Thanks for the support.

I was thinking of a 25% deposit as for final price I will need to investigate both availability and current prices for the parts required before determining that. I know the previous price (£50 - £55 including postage) put a few people off last time but it was as cheap as I could do it for as make a make a modest profit to fund other Jag hardware projects although ultimately I did not recover my costs on the first run.

There are other considerations as well, first I no longer have a printer to print to the labels and controller overlays. Hopefully I can get good results from the one at work but the linearity is bound to be different thereby requiring an adjustment to the artwork.

Additionally I currently cannot predict a timescale as...

1 ) I don't know how long it will take to get 10 interested people and

2 ) I am currently working on fault finding/repair guides for the 2600/7800 & Lynx (primarily for the power supplies) and one for common Jaguar problems, maintaining the VR BASIC user manual and updating/correcting the Jaguar Documents (with a little technical help from others) and I need to find time to either get my Dualshock to Jaguar controller interface operating with all controller models or get my USB to Jaguar interface going which would probably be better as it could theoretically support several USB controllers although that requires writing both my own USB host protocols/stack and controller drivers and USB is not the easiest of things to work with.

Plus I would like to have more time to play with VR BASIC, possibly the Raptor engine when it comes out and hack the Atari 3D demos with my own 3D objects so to see what works and so I am not short of things to do at the moment.
