Atari Interface Magazine / Current Notes / Atari Connection scans?

Does anyone know if there's a set of scanned issues of Atari Interface (Magazine) or Current Notes out there?

 

 

I'm not looking to get a hold of them or anything...it's just that in my finally-getting-around-to-trimming-down-my-old-computer-stuff sorting, I found my box of miscellaneous Atari 8-bit (and ST)-related mags with mainly the above titles, and I'm wondering if I should bother sending them to somebody that'd want to deal with them, or if I should just trash them. When I got them originally (from someone else's collection in like ~'94) they weren't in the best of shape (missing covers, stains, etc)...and being badly stored in an outside storage unit for 15 years hasn't helped their condition (some water damage, etc), so that is why the trashing-the-whole-lot option comes up :/

I've been collecting issues of both for years, and I still don't have complete sets of either title.

 

For AIM, I'm mostly still looking for some of the issues from the first year, 1989. (And I someday hope to figure out somehow whether or not there was a July 1991 issue.)

 

For CN it's very hard to find the first several years, when it was just a local club newsletter rather than a national magazine. I'm still looking for most issues from 1981-1983.

Do you happen to have the edition of Current Notes where David Small talks about everything that he went through in the making of his Mac emulator? It was a great piece. Always looked forward to the magazine mainly for his articles.

 

Anyone know if Current Notes ever got scanned or where a person can get a copy?

Can you tell us the date range of the current notes and atari interface mags that you have? I have 80+ of the current notes magazines but the first issue I have is dated 1984 (volume 4 so presumably they go back as far as 1981).

Current Notes is the one magazine I would love to see scanned.

 

If no one else takes the magazines I would be interested in them even in poor condition.

I'm bumping this old thread because I was searching for AIM magazine scans online today. All I found was a link to this thread and Archive.org has just one issue scanned: https://archive.org/details/AtariInterfacev1n31989-03

 

I have probably 6-12 issues of AIM in my own collection, I stumbled across the magazine in a book store while I was in college and started buying them and then got a subscription to it, but they went belly-up after a few issues. In the very last issue, I had my first ever article published.

 

I really think AIM needs to be archived and would like to help with the issues I have. Maybe we could get a list put together among members to see if we can come up with them all and get them scanned into PDF's. I have mine boxed up in storage somewhere, and will see about finding them. It would also be nice to get Current Notes and Atari Classics archived as well, as I had no idea these publications even existed until sometime this last decade.

Wow, I thought I had the very last issue, with one of my articles I submitted in it. Why? because I had a subscription and NEVER received another edition after the last one I have, so what the hell man? They cheated me!...time to see if I actually got another published in this one...nope. I guess only one out of 3 was good enough for them to publish, which means my other 2 must have been absolute shit, because they needed all the submissions they could get at the end...but my copies of my articles are all long lost except the one that was published...I just can't remember the exact issue, until I find it in a box somewhere...but maybe there were a few issues in between the one with my article and this one here, I won't know until I find out again what issue I have here...now where did I put that damn box of old mags...

 

And for those who have never seen the magazine in real life, it was a real magazine for a while, not some xeroxed copy that looks like a user group newsletter like the one at the link here. I'll take some photos once I find them.

Ok, so I located 11 issues of AIM, and I'm pretty sure I do have 12, but of course the last one I received, with my article is missing. I seem to recall showing my article to a friend a few years ago, so it must have gotten separated. I knew the end was near, since my last issue, the missing one, was printed entirely in newsprint, including the cover, which was at least in color still, but apparently it degraded further into complete black and white somewhere between my last issue and the one StormTrooper of death linked to above.

 

The last 6 issues I found have my address label on them, and including the missing one, that makes 7 issues I got out of a one-year subscription before (I thought) AIM went belly up. Below is images of one of the issues, most have poor covers anymore, so I photographed one of the ones still in fair condition.

 

It happens to be the issue where I first learned of the SIO2PC, which eventually led me to do my first-ever DIY hardware project. It was several years later, after college, when I finally made my (still in use today, but installed into my 1050 now) SIO2PC. By that time A.P.E. software was around, so I never did use Nick Kennedy's original PC software for the SIO2PC. Bob Woolley was the author of the SIO2PC article. a list of all the issues I have, minus the last one, is below too.

 

Something I thought was very cool at the time was that AIM was published using ST computers entirely (well, except maybe not actually copy printing and covers)

V2, #6, August '90 (no typo, both issues say number 6!)

V2, November '90 (no more #'s starting with this one, just volume, month and year)

V3, January '91

V3, December '91 (I *think* this was the first issue I got with my subscription)

V4, April '92 (yes, February and march seem to be missing, I don't know if I have them somewhere, or if there was a lapse of two months with no issues)

V4, May '92

V4, June '92

V4, July '92

and I am currently guessing that V4, September '92 might be the one with my article, the last I ever got

Bump again. I see that Atari Clasics still isn’t archived (just the covers). I have a few of these issues. And maybe some Current Notes.

A fair number of these have shown up on archive.org over the past few years. The front page search box usually finds them.

• There are at least 13 issues of Atari Interface scanned there, mostly posted by https://archive.org/details/@scottithgames. The Mid-Michigan Atari Magazine and Michigan Atari Magazine that preceded them are also well represented (I've found 14 issues).
• There are at least 14 issues of Current Notes scanned there, mostly posted by https://archive.org/details/@allan52.
• I believe all issues of Atari Classics are on archive.org, mostly posted by https://archive.org/details/@sketch_the_cow.

I have cleaned up the OCR's of the Atari Interface, (Mid-)Michigan Atari and Current Notes magazines if someone wants them (eventually I will put them up somewhere). It's on my list to do the same for Atari Classics, but no ETA.

That is confusing. The PDF at archive.org for V5N2 has a mix of pages from 1996 and 1997 and some pages are labeled volume 5, some labeled volume 6 yet the table of contents matches all the content. I couldn't find Volume 7

I have several scanners that I use depending on the situation. The Michigan newsletters were scanned on a flatbed, a CanoScan 9000F Mark II, which I don't think that model is made anymore.
