IntellivisionDude
Uh oh, i may not be as good as i thought i was. lol Nice job zylon Here is my first attempt. And i thought i did pretty good. I had a hard time taking a good pic with that red screen. Guess my camera sucks. And for some reason that red screen kept making my TV shut it self off. Maybe it couldn't handle the power of the red. 248,930 Edited July 1, 2011 by IntellivisionDude
IntellivisionDude
What a game. At one point i was down to 2 lives, then i got on a streak back up to 12 lives. Then i fell apart.
cparsley
WTG gang so far, and yes I'm going to have a bonus thrown in here soon, so stay tuned for that...
zylon
Don't worry. I've got "more". I can play longer when the temp goes down some.
cparsley
Was thinking of a way to bring the leaderboard closer together... and I think I figured out how to do it, recycle an old game at the same time... BONUS TIME Double your pleasure!!! How would you like a big old happy 20 points for you win in Astrosmash instead of just 10??? Here's how... Whatever score you earn in Astrosmash this period is yours to keep. YOU however, have the opportunity to double your prize by beating whatever score I'm able to achieve in AD&D Tarmin posted during this same period. Simply put, post a Tarmin score higher than mine, and you get double whatever you'd earned for your Astrosmash finish. So a lot of you can leapfrog closer to the top of the leaderboard I can not get any bonus from this, except for A) I can prevent more from catching me at the top of the board.... and B) If nobody beats me, then lol.... I get double my Astrosmash score... Same rules apply that would of applied for Tarmin (Disc difficulty level, picture is REQUIRED) Your score to determine if you get the bonus or not is your highest Tarmin score during the period (so you can post more than once) Enjoy! Here's the starting point... AD&D Tarmin... Score 130pts.

roadrunner
174,695 This game is more of an endurance test. At one point i had 42 lives.
Akito01
Peak Score = 586,885 (Alright for a start. This is the first time I've played this game on original hardware in a very long while. Next stop, Tarmin)
zylon
753,950 This is the absolute best I've got. This gets insane the instant you cross 750k! Seekers come out every 2 seconds and just annihilate your remaining lives. I had to use a fan blowing on the system. It overheated and ruined my early morning attempt.
Akito01
Tarmin high score = 580 Shit just got real. I know I can break 900,000 in Astrosmash but that has only been on Intellivision Lives for DS. On GameRoom I can break 700,000 where I have the #2 ranking on the world leaderboard. But if all these scores are coming from the actual cartridge on real hardware with that controller, I have no choice but to play it fair and do the same. At least I have an Intellivision II, which doesn't seem to suffer from overheating issues, but unfortunately has that controller with the hard plastic buttons. zylon
I'm using an Intellivision 1 system and real cart sitting on the floor in front of tv just like the old days. I'd use my Tandyvision, but I'd rather not risk cooking it on this game. I have the collection disc for the xbox, but it's just not the same. Once I got over 800k back in the 80's. Playing it now, I've no idea how I did it then. Edited July 3, 2011 by zylon

zylon
Well played. You're giving me the best "game" I've played against in many years.
cparsley
Nice NICE scores gang.... BOTH FOR Astrosmash (almost a million, you all are going to make me break out my Hexi-decimal conversion kit, aren't you all), AND for Tarmin (Nice Level 11 finish) Best hints I can give there is stay away from wierd power doors (doors colored yellow or light blue (aka other than normal blue doors) and high level spiritual monsters, as more defense, weapons etc are geared towards the war side (the number before the backslash) Keep it up, I'll have a new leaderboard out shortly (at work today)
cparsley
Current High Score List (again not at home so no graphic) Season 2 - Game 6 "Astrosmash w/Tarmin kicker" 1) Zylon 753,950 (No Bonus) 10pts 2) Akito01 639,700 (580 - Yes) 18pts (9*2) 3) INTVDude 248,930 (No Bonus) 8pts 4) RoadRunner 174,695 (No Bonus) 6pts 5) ed1475 104,100 (360 - Yes) 8pts (4*2) Rock on gang... Akito01
Peak Score = 671,815 When I had 180+ guys, I kinda thought I had this one, but as usual my post-500,000 crash-and-burn phase crippled my stock going into the 600,000s.
zylon
At certain key points after hitting 6X, the frequency of certain enemies increases. That's why there are massive die-off spots in the game. It takes a lot of lives to adapt.
cparsley
Cmon I want to crack out the Hexi editor, let's see a million here (if it is doable in Masters, why not here!)
zylon
Back in 80's I cracked 800k once. I might be able to get it on one of the compilation discs, but that "cheapens" it. While it would be cool, I wouldn't respect it. I'll try again if I get a good cool night. Of note: I didn't win the contest I was in back then, but placed 3rd. JacobZu7zu7
376,655 1st try at it, every try is a LOOOONG game. Lost about 25 lives in this spot of my score Those small satalites kept coming over and over... and my ship couldn't get underneath correctly! Also the BEEP BEEP BEEP... things. My all time best is 500ks.
Akito01
Peak Score = 883,710 Today was the first time with the original controller where I felt comfortable enough to play as I'm used to playing on other versions. At the peak I had 260 men, and I'd been gaining more men than I'd been losing up until that 750,000 spot, which is when the game finally decides it wants you dead dead dead. Not counting Intellivision Lives on DS, I think this ranks as my best Astrosmash game to date. Breaking a million is a very tough order, because the game steps up difficulty every 50,000. People can do it, I know, but I never have myself.
