I haven't seen an Atari 2600 for less than $100 on Craigslist in Rochester, NY in at least two years. I've had a little better luck in Buffalo and Syracuse, but not much.

There's a couple Goodwill's on the east side of town that sometimes have 2600 carts, but they're always commons and they're always at least $4-$5 each.

AAAAH!! you must be my Someguy!!

Seeing as how I've bought very little in the way of related items locally (within a 40 mile radius) within the last two years, probably not. I found some common Atari 2600 and Intellivison carts that were reasonably priced last weekend, but they were out near Buffalo.

I'm still trying to find my 'some guy'. That bastard knows exactly what I'm looking for every time!

I was watching Storage Wars the other night and in one of the lockers was a SNES box. I guess the system was in it. The guy said, "That's worth a couple hundred bucks."

JY

Yea but they had what looked like a bag that had a bunch of games in it. No way of knowing how many and if they were boxed or not, but as was mentioned, these guys throw out instant numbers and they're taken as law.

"Hey I found belly button lint - $1000" Ding ding ding goes the little money meter. :P

ah I see. did you by any chance ever shop at a (now defunct) rochester game store called GameStation?

Was that the store outside the Greece Mall? I don't recall ever stopping ever stopping in.

yeah that was the one. i worked there for years, we had a lot of old school stuff. i used to just put out any "strange looking" atari games for 5-10 dollars . wondering if you had ever scored anything good off me back then, but i suppose not.

I've only been to one local game store in the last year or so (which shall remain nameless except for the fact that it's about a mile and a half from my house). They have a couple small boxes of 2600 carts, all commons, priced $5.99 and up (and a Sears Asteroids for $10). Everything is really dusty and the entire place gives off the vibe of being in a disused basement.

Same thing with the Craig's list postings in SW PA.... I often see $100-$200 for 2600 systems with some commons. I don't know if these people are really trying to get rid of their stuff or if someone is foolish enough to pay that. These prices can't last for long... me thinks we are going to go into recession that will be more rough than the last one.

On Storage Wars last night, some guy new to the show (Mark?) found an old beat to hell NES and thought it was worth 13 grand. Then there was the whole drawn out part of going to a video game store where it was explained that he was basically an idiot and it wasn't worth more than $10. The kicker was, of course, it didn't even work.

The whole thing is staged anyway. Cameras are set up just right and different angles, etc so the whole thing is staged drama.

I think it's interesting to watch the storage shows, but I thought the pawn shows are just nuts and obviously very staged.

Note that the storage shows are about their "best" finds, and they leave the crap stuff off TV. It's quite interesting to see what people leave behind, antiques and games, RC cars and safes. Stuff I'd love to have access to. I don't know if the values are inflated any more than just an uneducated guess. Sometimes, though, I do wonder where their "experts" get their pricing on some things.

I'll try to upload that clip if I can.

Oh my god that guy is retarded. "This is the first Nintendo DS ever made. The last one went in the internet with 5 games for $13000". Just another idiot reseller with absolutely no idea what the hell he's talking about. I see them at flea markets all the time and I just laugh at them. I had a guy say, just to prove me wrong, he would buy an Atari 2600 off me for $500. Unfortunately at the time I didn't have a second system and neither did any of the Play-N-Trades around here. Of course he's long gone now.

I tried finding that clip but have had no success. I'm sad I missed that episode because I would have died laughing. His stupidity is my gain though, I'll gladly sell him some of my extra systems lying around for a small fortune and tell him good luck.

Yeah, I almost died when I heard him say "this is the first Nintendo DS" and then drop that 13 grand number out of his ass. Hell I just had 5 of those in my house, 13,000 each would have been super nice. I wish I had gotten to him before that show was filmed. I could have sold them to him for $1000 each and he would have thought he got the deal of his life.

I'm glad it was Mark that looked like an idiot. I can't say I really care for anyone on that show, but Mark is the epitome of a douche bag.

Personally I kind of like Barry but it was incredibly funny to see how a douche bag like Mark could make himself look like even more of a moron on TV.

I'm assuming he (Mark) is referring to the auction that had the boxed(?) Stadium Events that sold for around $13000. Of course it was the game, not the system that drove the price. I'm surprised the guy who explained all this from the game store never mentioned it. Surely HE would have been aware of it.

That is what I was thinking too. As soon as he said 13 grand I thought about that auction with Stadium Events (because it made national news) and when the guy at the game store acted like he didn't know that I was a bit shocked. Maybe he is new to the hobby?
