Vandal968
Today I decided to fire up my Atari with a modem and dial-in somewhere. First I tried the MPP-1000c modem with Smart Terminal cartridge like I had as a kid. It works, but it only does pulse-dialing and my VOIP (Ooma) doesn't support it. So, next I pulled out a 1030 and tried that. It has built-in terminal software that loads over the SIO which is pretty neat, but the software is very primitive and basically sucks. I remember that I used to use some totally kick-ass terminal software that came out pretty late in the Atari's mainstream lifespan. I used it for a few months, then the ST computers came out and overnight the 8-bit stuff was obsolete and me and my friends were all selling-off our systems. I don't remember what that great terminal software was. I searched AtariMania and here, and the 8-bit archives that I've got and didn't find it. Just found Amodem, and a bunch of other primitive software. This program was quite amazing at the time. I remember that it offered many x-fer protocols (X-modem, Y-modem, etc.) not just the one or two that other terminal software had. Also, it offered full control over data-bits, parity-bits, etc. Anyone remember this software? Got an ATR? cheers, v

+bf2k+
Here's BobTerm bobterm.zip and 850 Express 850 Express.zip
+wood_jl
Look for "Express!" and "Bobterm." There was a version of Express for different modems - "850 Express" for std. modems over the 850 Interface Module, 1030 Express for Atari 1030 modem, MPP Express for MPP modem, etc. Not sure about Bobterm versions - by the time Bobterm came along, I was only using std. modems over the 850 (or equivalent) so it didn't matter. edit: somone beat me to it above Edited August 9, 2011 by wood_jl
+Stephen
Ice-T XE is my choice, as it's an 80 column ANSI capable term which supports X,Y,Z modem downloads, and my favorite feature is the 16kb scroll buffer for text.

Vandal968
ICE-T I think Express might have been the one I was thinking of. Thanks guys. v
Atari8bitCarts
Does anyone know if Smart Terminal only came with a MPP modem (i.e. not boxed separate)? I had only back in 1983 (I think) with a modem. I loved that cartridge!
Android8675
Easily Ice-T, there's an alpha version that actually does a little ANSI color, not 16 color ANSI, but considering he's able to get any color out of a a8 running in a software 80-col mode, I call it a win. I use it with a SIO2PC + APE to call Internet BBSs. Works great.

I loved that cartridge! I don't think it was available without a modem. I picked up my copy second hand, since my modem came with a disk, not a cart. It's still lurking in a box in the basement, somewhere...
