Just a warning: I am STILL defending. After replacing one more buffer chip, my #1 system is back even better. My last play was around 152k and I'll play more during the Giants game.

Scores updated. :)

It appears my "defense" was successful, though I had doubts for a while. A big thanks to all who played, especially sdamon. Without his valiant attempt, I wouldn't have pushed my game as far.

I so badly wanted to nail one more smart-bomb to crack 200k on that last game.
+1 to a most worthy opponent and we'll do this again. ;)

What do the buffer chips do for this game and were yours defective ? or is this a way to hot rod the system ?

The buffer chips have various control functions routed through them. No "hot-rodding" involved. Also, the chips I used came from a dead 5200. They can fail various ways, most common is Start/Pause/Reset failure. Mine failed to recognize anything beyond extreme movement after it warmed up. Fine movement control was nearly impossible. It gives a similar symptom to having a bad pot in your controller.
1st one I put in lasted a day or so, then auxillary keypad function failed. 2nd chip I installed was from port 2 on a dead system and is still working fine. There are 5 of those in a 4-port system.
