How to "defend"? Simple. Don't let anyone beat your record. You won't be eligible for the bonus point unless someone else tops the current record. That's the slight handicap to current record holders.
If you meant "how did you do it?" I don't know as that was before this administration. Our friend roadrunner is still the current record keeper.

Quite the gameplay this season. records getting blown away almost weekly.

Yeah, it's a shame this game isn't getting more love. Quite a letdown after last round's all-out shootout.

I only have this one on emulator and controls are terrible, hence my "token" play. Perhaps some of the regulars will get some play in.

Well I just got the 5200 last week so I am still getting used to it. But I figured I would contribute my best so far.

Welcome aboard! That's not a bad start! Here's some tips for this rather unusual game:

You can fire considerably further diagonally than straight.
Watch where the enemy turret shots land and avoid that area, until you are ready to make a shot of your own immediately after their shot lands. Make sure your turret is pointed in the right direction!
To really boost your score, you need to be able to repeatedly enter the codes. Each successful code entry is worth 10,000 points. I've had the best luck by getting two of the letters, then entering the code. With only three possibilities, it's a piece of cake to guess the right code knowing two of the letters.

My 5200 (and TV, and furniture...) is packed away in the garage - we just got new flooring. I am slowly moving stuff back into the rooms. I might have some time Sunday to fire up the 5200 and compete! I'd like to.

From what I recall trying Countermeasure on emulators, the control just doesn't work well at all. But remember you can turn off the auto-move feature by pressing a button - check the instructions for exact details. That 'feature' makes it harder to play, IMHO.

The only bad score is from the game you don't play.

my emulation isn't workin right at the moment, cuz of a computer switch... I have to hit shift to fire, yet with a controller to move.... doesn't make sense. Hope to get it better soon.

66,450 is the best that I can muster in the time I have... I texted the screen shot to zylon as our home computer will not let us on the net after a recent windows update, we are waiting for the new software to correct the issue, and we have no clue how to post pics from the apple laptop that my wife recently purchased..

I wish I had more time to play this one. It was really fun saving the world for the first time when I finally figured it out(pic below!) All I'd seen before was the death screen until now. I'm really liking this game, and I'll have my chops honed for the next go'round
