Space Dungeon-got a little bit better on this one. 36,205. I got lucky & nailed the 'thief' right next to the end level room.

Pool: 42
Note: I like this one a lot too.

Cops and robbers: 42
Note: very fun.

That's right - just because they're b/w doesn't mean they're crap!

For those of you that have played all titles in this contest and assuming there were titles that you've never played before, which one has been a pleasant surprise in the fun factor department?

My vote is for Poolshark. Although it seems vaguely familiar, like I may have played it long long ago in a galaxy, err, when I was really young.

I can't figure out Subs & how to shoot on this one. What am I missing here? I have the Player 1 Button 1 assigned and the Dial Inc/Dec assigned to the 'shoulder' buttons on my controller. Any ideas?

I've been using player 2's controls. A = "Fire." D & G = left and right. I noticed the CPU takes control of player one when the game starts for what ever reason.

For not playing any of these titles (other than DK), or even knowing of any of them, I'm having fun playing these old b rated games.

I finally got past Donkey Kong and got into 4 more titles today.

In alphabetical order:

Altair - 16,760

Of the five that I played here, I find Black Hole is really fun. It doesn't make much sense when you first try it, but you get used to how the falling black holes(I think that's what they're supposed to be)move and you get good at fitting your ship between the gap they provide you upon shooting it. Cops n Robbers is ok, but not much to it. Altair is entertaining, but has awkward controlling and sucks in the sound effects department. Of course Donkey Kong can amuse for hours on end. And finally, desert gun. As straightforward as a crosshair shooter could possibly get, I would have to say this is my second choice of all these games.

Space D 17075

In Desert Gun you can get time if you get 5k before time runs out. I finally got the extended play and flopped! I was only able to nab 500 more points

With Space Dungeon I have been using my 360 controller to try and get the 2 stick feel. Where I have never enjoyed the 2 stick shooter games, I would like to try this one with 2 eight ways.

Desert Gun: 10,400
Note: anybody know if the 4 things at the bottom does anything?

Those are there to give you something to shoot at for the point of reloading. Have your crosshair lined up on one of these objects to blast as soon as you can, then drag over sideways and shoot another if you are quick enough. If you take out 2 at a time, you will get your 200 point bonus after 2 reloads.

Another good time to shoot at them is when there are no enemies on the board. There are transition periods where you will only have these objects to shoot at so use this idle time to take out as many as you can!

Just so you know, the Desert Gun dip switches are as follows:

MAME ROMset: desertgu
Dip Switches: Extended Time At: 7000; Game Time: 50 seconds + 30 extended

I'm sure it would hardly make a difference having it set for 5000 or 7000, just wanted to let you know.

let me go back and double check the rest of my settings them. I'm know I have not changed the 5 I picked up in the last day or so. I'll remove what ever is bogus.

Ok. It was the only ROM with the wrong settings at least :) I did not see an option for Game Time: 50 secs + 30 extended only an option for 50 secs. I'll just run with that one. This game BLOWS with a keyboard! I was hoping I didn't have to play it again. Maybe if I messed with the settings some and slowed the cursor down some (if I could do that) it would be somewhat easier for me. But as it is, the cursor is FAST man! I mean FAST!

Sweet, it's entertaining going back through the history and seeing where your scores stand not only in relation to a specific tourney or round but the whole recorded history of the HSC.

Maybe the game should be renamed "Monica Lewinski's Dress".

While I'm out here entering scores in this thread let me take time to plug the upcoming Winter Blast tournament that starts January 26. PSP is throwing in some prizes for those that finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd so check it out - should be fun!

I don't mean to toot my own horn but this is an example of why I started the magazine: collaborating with others like PSP and the arcades to create something positive for a change instead of all the King of Kong type drama that tends to go around too often.

Rules are here
