Heh of all people to ask... there is one person (who is just before you), that, they havnt paid yet... if they dont pay before the next 12 are made, then you will be the 12th...

(the reason they got to keep their place in line even tho they havnt 'paid' yet is twofold:
1) they have been in the hospital and very sick.
2) they made a trade to have theirs installed in a machine, I have their machine to install, and the trade... but no cash for the actual VBXE...

so i dont think they would mind much going to the end of the list ;')

I recently tried my VBXE in my 800xl with a GBS 8220 RGB to VGA video upscaler, on my VGA monitor picture is good but colors are a little bit washed out. Does not seem to be noticeable screen lagging.

I also tried it on an older RGB monitor I thought would be perfect, its an NEC Multisync from I think 1987. It has been sitting on the shelf in the corner of the basement for at least 15 years, I was surprised I still had it.  Picture was crisp and clear but colors were off (Blue DOS screen was RED), this monitor has a ton of settings that can be adjusted. I probably just need to figure out how to get it dialed in.

Saving the best for last, I will next be trying my Commodore and Atari monitors.

I think, I recall reading about a way to have both the regular core and the VGA core loaded in the vbxe and switching between them,  is this possible and if so how is it done?

Best regards
Robert

VGA core needs a different crystal, so simply switching cores with the supplied utility won't do much good on its own.

There's one that runs on the 14 MHz crystal, but is legacy graphics only.

Switching between - easy enough but the Sync sources are different.  In 16 KHz normal VBXE video you source CSync from the Atari video circuit.  In VGA mode, VBXE itself generates the sync.  So you'd probably want to make up a couple of custom cables to use in each mode.

Didn't realize that Gary: thanks for clarifying! :)

Bummer, I was thinking about putting a 15pin and a 9pin connector in both wired, and then possibly switching back and forth as needed via the software FC.COM.

From what Rybags says, perhaps this could work? Just source sync from the appropriate spot for each output.

There are 2 actually, the difference is one allows use of the VBXE memory for RAMdisk. As you said, for legacy GTIA graphics only, not VBXE enhanced modes.

I think all the cores have an "R" version which does this.

Ok, Update time...

I have 2 fully working and tested XE types... I just need to clean them and make them look pretty ;')

I have two XL ones that work, but I am having clock issues... The crystal isnt driving the clock line like it should, but using an external oscillator and the boards work fine... I have a third one that passes the games and stability testing (all VBXE's are tested using one Galaxian cart, and a few other games), but doesnt pass the color bars. It is getting closer tho, and almost there...

At least you have an easy supply of Ntsc crystals if you need them (ie, practically everywhere).  I had to rip the one out of a 7800 for mine.
