Make Trax

Player controls a paintbrush to paint paths within a maze. The player is harassed by two fish which can be temporarily destroyed by running them over with a one of two paint rollers located near the maze center. A critter occasionally emerges to leave footprints on painted areas which must then be repainted.

Season standings have been updated. I forgot to add the bonus points for the funny Cosmo Gang pix last week but they are reflected in this week's update.

I agree, this game does feel broken.

What exactly feels broken?

Isn't this the game that Walter Day said he was a pro at in Chasing Ghosts?

When you say "broken", I am assuming you are referring to the lame and sloppy player control that comes with this game. I agree with you.

For instance, try doing the "PacMan" dance(back and forth quickly). It is impossible to do it accurately and effectively. It's something with the controls.

In Make Trax, once you have run over the fish for 6400 points, the fish will be very clever and will be extremely tough to run over at this point.

I try to cherry pick fish by hanging around just outside of the centre vertical hallway, either left or right. See the uploaded photo.

The points for broom hits:
1st board 50----100---200---400---800---1600---3200---6400---9000---?????
2nd board 100---200--400---800---1600---3200--6400--9000---????
3rd 200--- " "

I'm not even good at this game. The only reason I got 32,600 was from a game where I hit a 9000 on the first board. Add it up, it's 21,750.

I'm pretty sure someone will get 40k.

You bait them into this hallway, then just as the timing is right, you go over to the broom and squash 'em.

Easier said then done.

EXACTLY. Once you move in a direction, you have no control until you are either caught or hit a wall.....

It's not acting like that on my copy! Except when using the roll.
Yes, it's true that you can not do back and forth moves like in pacman but you can change direction anytime.

The algorithm for the fishes is very good. I always find myself cornered!
Also, they know exactly what distance to be from you when you try to get the roll.

Fellow defender fans:

I know some of us are kind of annoyed by this game, so in the meantime check out my Defender Youtube video I recently published:

Now there's someone who can run over a fish. Did you get 9k's on the first and second?

I don't recall exactly, but if you do it right you can get one 9k on the first level, two 9k's on the second level, three on the third etc.

Here's a better score ->

94,420
Level 3

Interesting that this game was originally created by Alpha Denshi (World Heroes franchise, some other Neo Geo games, etc.)!
Will work on a score possibly later tonight.

I saw Walter and Greg Bond playing on a Make Trax mini-cab last summer at Richie's Invitational. It was the first time I've met Walter in person - really nice guy.
