On the right side of the cd unit it looks like it says open/close so I'd guess you just press down on the lid to open

This is awesome and totally makes sense as to how the original console was designed. The recessed middle with the bump out center (saucer section as you say) always seemed way strange and inefficient. Why is this now the first time we're hearing and seeing it though?

LOL :D And I will point out that the Jag is exactly the same size as the original.  Seems like thats the reason the saucer section is in the Jag, maybe Atari wanted to save money and that's why they kept it there

To open / close the lid you simply push down lightly on the lid like other systems.  since this is the only one is existence and worth a fortune I am trying not to handle it too much though! :D

The factory sticker says Jaguar produced by IBM, and CD Drive by Sony.  WTF  there is also a tiny switch underneath that says 26/52 mhz.  There there are a couple of CoJag games that run at 52 mhz.  this could have held its own against the PlayStation. I am thinking of trying AVP, but don’t want to play it any more /  damage it as Ive never had anything so valuable!

Interesting that Sony made the CD drive for a competeing platform, I never had a CD drive for Jag were all of them made by Sony? Also would be cool to see a video of this in action!

You'll have to show me the back to convince me.  I can't imagine how the cartridge slot and video connectors could be wired up inside to allow this to work.  Unless, of course, it's just for show and doesn't work.

But I gotta agree, it sure is a good looking concept!

The back has DC, DSP, AV and RF.  The only difference is the DC connector is a little bigger than the normal Jag power connector.

I just reluctantly tried AVP on the 52 Mhz setting.   the graphics look the same, but framerate is better! Im in shock!

why does the interior shot where the JagCD comes in contact with the Jaguar appear as if there is an extremely crudely cut seam between the two. or is my mind just playing tricks on me :?

Either way, would've been cool if a JagDuo or something had been released, I think it would've looked a little weird if a unit like this had been mass produced but maybe I'm just used to seeing them separately :-D

LOL ok guys and gal I cant keep the truth hidden any longer, this was a huge april fools type of joke LOL but the system IS REAL its just not from an ex atari employee, 10P6 himself did the mod and it does work! ;) it was my evil idea to play a joke on everyone lol
but when 10P6 messaged me and showed me the pictures I was blown away by how cool the thing is. ;) looks so much better than toilet jag

10P6 asked me to post it, but I wanted to have some fun.   But again it really works. it has only one 20 Watt PSU, and has most of my other bells and whistles.   It does have a slightly jagged edge, but note that he built it in 3 hours only using 2 screwdrivers, a Hacksaw, Sandpaper, Glue gun and Soldiering Iron.  Oh and other than it’s big ass, it all fits in a standard Jag case.
:)

This is how the jaguar should have launched - CD only , no cartridge slot at all :)

Hehe... I knew this was possible.   I would love to see what it takes to make the guts work inside.  Been thinking of making a Jaguar/CD combo for a while

Want about the memory card slot? Its not like its 1993 and you can make that decision. ;-)

The 3DO and Saturn both were around the same time period and had internal memory. May have been a little more costly but not unthinkable.

I do like the thought of only 1 PSU, I was wondering about that after this when considering the possibility that it was a functional unit (note I though u just took some broken Jags and hacked them together lol). I would pay just of a homebrew unit that doesn't take up much space and bridges the 2 PSU's into 1.

Kev ---

That is cool, but I'm gonna call bullsh*t on this one :-)

Its either the best damned photoshopping yet, or you've got connections with someone with great machine shop skills or Ben Heck mocked that up.... there is not enough depth for that mech to actually be from the period and to work and I have very serious doubts the pass-thru for the cart connection would actually squeeze in there...

Either way, its a damned cool mockup.

That thing is freaking amazing. Mod or not I would totally buy one. It looks completely legit from the pictures too, other than the Jaguar CD logo sticking out a bit. That's how the Jaguar should have been on release.

It is real.   It does work.  It does fit into one case, but you have to remove both Cart connectors and solder a 'LOT' of wires, along with cut, modify and glue a lot of plastic.

I was trying to figure out how you made the cartridge connector fit.  That is some hard-core soldering, dude!  You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the inside, would you?  It really does look beautiful on the outside!
