Greetings Fellow Classic Gamers!

I don't know about you, but I can't play a game without the music.  It completely sets the mood for the game and is critical to the enjoyment of the video game experience.

So what is your favourite classic video game music?  Please post your nominees with YouTube clips of the music, if you can.  (And can someone tell me how to post YouTube videos on this forum?  I tried on another thread, but it didn't work.)

I'll start it off with my picks:

1.  Super Ghouls'n Ghosts (SNES)
2.  Ghost'n Goblins (C64--very different from all other versions!)
3.  Final Fantasy II (SNES, version IV in Japan)
4.  Double Dragon (arcade)
5.  Klax (Lynx)

Unfortunately I don't have much experience with CD-based games, though I heard that Ys Books 1 & 2 on TG-16 CD is also amazing.  CD games should really be considered as a separate category, but please include them here if you have some good picks.

I'll post some videos as soon as I get a chance.

I'm generally not a fan of background music in games.  It eventually gets to be irritating to me.  But there are exceptions.  Off the top of my head, some I've enjoyed were Tron, Vanguard, and Space Fury (all arcade, of course...the home versions, where they exist, were 'meh').

For some reason, the music from Journey To Silius (NES) sticks out in my mind.

:)

I have to say I disagree.  Music is a huge part of the gaming experience for me.  No game is truly great unless it has great music/sound.

Please post videos of your games!  :)

Not nearly as good as the first track you posted, but not bad.

I figured out I had to place square (media) brackets around the youtube url.

Super GnG (SNES):

Beware some videos on YouTube using an emulator...the music seems to slow down with the action, but I don't remember the music ever slowing down on the actual machine.  The above video seems to be captured on a real SNES.

Ugh, not another one of these threads.. It doesn't seem to take very long before someone complains about all the YouTube videos slowing down their browser.

All the songs on the NES Blaster Master: they are some of the best songs on the NES. Very atmospheric
The tunes from Thunder Castle on the Intelevision: it showed how awesome the intellivision sound hardware is.
Castlevania 3
Legend of Zelda LttP
Kirby on the gameboy and NES

there is so much more...

I agree with Thunder Castle.  It's very good music for the time and machine.  Zelda LttP is an A, but maybe not an A+.

Does it matter?  You asked for our favorite classic game music.  Well there it is.  I like the soundtrack for the whole game.  Ninja Gaiden is another.
