I know this is a older game, but a friend I was talking to last night about a old game that we both mutaly love, Star Control II, was saying how many things that Mass Effect has in common to SC2 or were directly inspired by it.  I passed this game up when it first came out, but that got my attention.

What formats is the game available for and does it have any replay value?  Does anyone on here have the game and can say if they directly like it or not?

I've heard it's a RPG game but not in the the 'old school' style.  I really don't know much about this one since, like I said, I kind of missed it when it came out.  Yes, I know there is YouTube and reviews but I'd rather get honest and fair reviews from people like yourselfs. :P

I have both and they are great games.  I do like ME 2 better because of the combat, but I miss a certain vehicle from the first one.  ME1 actually plays alot like Kotor and kotor 2

I'm thinking of jumping in with ME3 and then going back to ME2 and then ME1.  Is this going to be a problem?  I know sequentially it's not right but I can treat ME2 and ME2 as prequels.

The reason why I wouldn't start with ME1 is because I normally don't play RPGs. I still won't go near Skyrim.  But I do like sci-fi, ME3 does support the Kinect, and the series was well-reviewed so that might be enough for me to jump in.

If it were me I'd start with the 1st one. Lots of story there. IMHO the first one is the better of the two.

I loved both these games. I give the first one the edge though. IMO better story line (I felt like 80% of the second ones story line was simply gathering a crew), better exploration of planets (who thought shooting a bunch of probes would be fun?) I do want to play through the second one again. I had started on a gamesave where I had let
There is one bad thing about the third game I can see already. Skyrim
Mass Effect is another one of those games that i can spend hours and hours playing, you have to be willing to dedicate time into a ME game.
Unfortunately I've already dedicated my time to Skyrim and now there is no looking back!!
I suspect by the time I get around to finally playing ME3, it'll be selling for $20.

Id start with the first one, you can import your character over and a few little things you do in the first one will carry over as well.

Not leveled, but the same created character...and you will see results of your previous actions

Start with the first for sure.  It was so neat to see NPCs in ME2 and have them chat with me about decisions I made in the first game. Nothing story-changing, but if you decided to spare a criminal's life in ME1, for example, you might see what they made of themselves in ME2. Besides, I thought the first game was the better of the 2 (just get ready for the worst inventory/upgrade system in video game history).

Weapons and armor are better in two.  The blackhole cannon and blood dragon armormare exquisite....if you have the codes for them.

I actually prefer 2 but their both great games. I would play them in order, as already stated you can import your character over from the previous title and carry over your choices.
