Byte Knight
I'm about halfway through this book now and lovin' it. Tons of references to the Atari 2600 and 80's pop culture. Anyone who frequents this forum will thoroughly enjoy this book!
Lord Helmet
Yup it's a fantasitc book if you're a child of the 80's. It's been discussed here briefly: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/189291-anyone-read-ready-player-one-by-ernest-cline/
Mirage
Haven't started it yet, but it's on my "to read imminently" shelf thanks to that thread.

It's been discussed here briefly: http://www.atariage....y-ernest-cline/ I read through this thread as well, but I figured more people visit this forum. Just finished the book - Atari users will love the ending! Great book!
roberto
Sounds very cool... I'll check it out! Thanks for the suggestion!
GKC
I'm about 30 pages in. I'm a child of the 80's but I don't remember it all too well. I was kind of concerned that maybe the 80s references would be over my head but the author, for the most part, takes time to explain a majority of them. Others, like references to the 2600, shouldn't needed any explaining. great book so far.
Metal Jesus
I just finished the book as well... and I freakin' LOVED IT! So many great references... especially if you are a RUSH fan BTW: If you bought one of those fancy iPads or tablets, you're local library may have it too. Just get the Overdrive app. That's how I actually read it.
misspent_youth
I read it on my e-book borrowed from the library as well. A great book, with a genuinely suspenseful story that just happened to revolve around lots of pop culture from the 1980's. The author is pretty hardcore, even owning a DeLorean like he one mentioned in the book. Based on the notes at the end of the book, this will be made into a movie before too long. Yeah, it looks like the book will definitely be made into a movie. Can't wait!

I can still bust out Dokken's Under Lock and Key album and enjoy the hell out of it! Ah, Hair Metal....
draw
Thank you, Byte Knight. I went (to amazon...) and bought it. And what a ginormously entertaining read it was. Highly recommended! (plus I learned a few new expressions: "to wolf sth. down", which just sounds great to me, dunno why or "little man in a canoe", which made me smile really silly Anyone else thinking it's gonna be quite a tuff one to be made into a movie?!? Mirage
Working my way through it right now. Great book so far, very well written.
atari181
Just went to amazon and ordered it. I'll post my thoughts after I am done. Thanks for the suggestion.
Byte Knight
Anyone else thinking it's gonna be quite a tuff one to be made into a movie?!? It's been done before with The Matrix and Avatar, and most of the book takes place in Oasis. It will be expensive but doable...
roberto
Got it and finished reading it already! At times it seemed like some references were a bit forced and not really necessary (making the narration not as smooth as it could have been) but, nonetheless, this is really a page turner for us old retrogamers and I truly enjoyed reading it. Highly recommended!
Mirage
He should have put the chapter numbers in hex.
Mirage
JUST finished the book! It was great, I'd highly recommend it. Yeah, there's a few (maybe more than a few) areas in the book where there was some questionable logic or obvious technical issues that would have made the progression of the characters unlikely, but they're not too distracting and I was able to easily just brush them aside and continue to enjoy the book. Heck, it's still more believable than most movies I haven't enjoyed a book this much in quite awhile. I'm sure most people on this site would love the book. Get it! tremoloman2006
Thanks to everyone here I just ordered a copy... hope it is as good as it sounds!
simbalion
I will have to see if I can find this book. I was born in 1977, so got to enjoy the 80's and often miss that decade. Was so much fun stuff around my area before the Wal-Mart bomb hit in the early 90's.
Byte Knight
Thanks to everyone here I just ordered a copy... hope it is as good as it sounds! You won't be disappointed, although I don't recall any "Iron Maiden" references... I will have to see if I can find this book. The book is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. AtariDude
I got the book and it was a lot of fun to read. All the 80s pop culture references and the technology of the 80s were great. It did have some similarites to other stores in the use of virtual reality but it was still fun.
omnispiro
Amazing Book! I didn't want it to end but I couldn't stop reading it either. I have been creating some designs based on the book since I got it, you can see them here www.andrewoid.us under the Ready Player One Section on the left. I will add more in the next few days. Hope you like them! Greetings!
draw
I didn't want it to end but I couldn't stop reading it either. That's exactly what went on here... You have done some really nice stuff there, Couldn't stop watching page by page and am definitely going to make some friends enjoy it, too... Thank you! I'd really like to see another series of your reality pixelation stuff- so if you're ever in doubt of what to put up next...
