19Echo
just aquired an amiga 500 in a local trade. It came with the computer and power supply is all. looking for a mouse (unless an old serial one will work) and the video cable. I have a commodore 1084 monitor, but no cable to hook it up too. Also dont know if i require a startup disk or not as well. If anyone has any of these items for a reasonable price, i would appreciate it. +save2600
You cannot use a regular IBM serial mouse with an Amiga, unless you have or can make an adapter. And yeah, all floppy based Amiga's require a Workbench disk if you want to play around with the system or run Workbench type games or programs. amiman99
Its possible I will have some Amiga and Atari compatible mice for sale in the near future. If I'm lucky. Most games are self boot, so you don't need WB disk to run them. As for monitor cable, check the back of the monitor and see if it's DB9 Male/Female or DIN connector. There are many versions of 1084 monitor. For now you can use the MONO video out to that monitor,
+wood_jl
I understand if you want to keep this low-buck, but I got tired of unreliable ball mice slipping and frustrating me, and ruining my games, as well. Amiga mice on Ebay aren't exactly dirt cheap anyway, which partially justifies this expensive USB adapter..... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 120814385754 .....is the ULTIMATE mouse solution. I have one for Atari ST and this one for Amiga. There is one little caveat: it doesn't work with all USB mice. There has been previous discussion on this in the ST forum somewhere. It's the same restriction on this Amiga version. If you're serious and don't mind spending a buck, get this and a used Logitech M-BJ58 mouse from Ebay. They typically sell for about $7. I watch 'em all the time and have sort of "stocked up" for the various old machines I have that use this adapter. Here's one that ended yesterday..... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 330687001155 If you do an Ebay "advanced" search for "Logitech M-BJ58" and check off "completed listings" you'll see that is a typical price. They also come in different colors. I suppose the black ones are the same, but I've only used the white one since it's what I had, and it looks much better with these computers anyway. There's only a couple black ones listed on there now, but they are listed all the time. I previously got a mint one for $3 or something like that. If the $35 adapter and $7 mouse sound expensive, consider how proud Ebay sellers are, of the original Amiga mouse...... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 330688452191 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 130647392788 $50 for a troublesome/unreliable piece of shit that's going to mess up my game of Arkanoid, like the last one.....vs. optical perfection for the same price or less. Of course, if you're not too serious about it, you might wait around and find a cheaper Amiga mouse, but the ones I found for cheap were pieces of shit. Same thing with the Atari ST. I wrote about this mouse thingy on message #13 of this thread..... Rybags
35 bucks is a small price to pay (adaptor). Also consider the ST mouse is an ergonomic nightmare and the stock Amiga one isn't much better. And replacement optical mice are like 8 bucks and a quantum leap over a ball... and laser types are another leap above that.
