Already putting my box together. Looking forward to weeding out some more dupes from my collection. I'll also be bringing back some more of those marquee light boxes and hopefully a few other projects if I get them completed in time.

Here's the official press release for this always-fun event:

Oklahoma's Only Retro Video Game Exhibition Returns

TULSA, OK–-Classic video games will roll in like a storm from history, as mid-America's one and only OVGE returns for the ninth Oklahoma Video Game Exhibition!

On June 16, 2012 video game collectors and enthusiasts from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and even further will come together at the Spirit Bank Event Center in Tulsa to celebrate the history, hobby, collecting, and entertainment of the video gaming industry. “Before the OVGE, people from the surrounding states had to travel across the country for events such as this,” said Jesse Hardesty, founder and organizer of the OVGE.

In 1972, the video game industry began with the release of the Odyssey by Magnavox, the first multi-video game system for the home. Seven years later in 1979, Atari released the mighty 2600VCS and both created and changed home entertainment forever! Then, in the early ‘80s an overflow of games and poor sales resulted in the great crash of the video game industry in 1983. Since the rebirth of the industry in 1985, with the introduction of the Nintendo Entertainment System, video game sales and popularity have flourished.

Still, many video game players find themselves returning to classic video games. With the advanced high definition graphics and motion control of today’s video games, why are so many people fascinated with the classics? “Even though modern game systems have amazing graphics and sound, the most important aspect of any video game is that it actually be fun to play. Because classic game systems, like the Atari 2600, had very simple graphics, game designers had to focus on the game-play. Those same games that were fun in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s are still just as much fun today,” stated Albert Yarusso, modern video game programmer and co-founder of AtariAge.com. It is also this simple pick up and play philosophy that makes for quick gaming without the need to invest in large amounts of time as many of today's games require.

"With video gaming being today’s main form of home entertainment, the history behind it should not be forgotten,” said Hardesty. “The Oklahoma Video Game Exhibition is providing the youth and their parents a chance to visit and interact with that past.”

Numerous video game systems, computers, and arcade machines, will be set up for the public to play plus tournaments and door prizes! Vendors and exhibitors will have memorabilia on display with many items for purchase.

Doors will open to the public at 9:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m. Cost of admission for ages eight and above is $5 dollars at the door.

The OVGE is organized by gaming enthusiasts who want to share their hobby and passion for classic and modern video games with the public. For more information, visit www.ovge.com.

Ok, so I have been in contact with Jesse. Everything is going as planned. Almost all the tables are spoken for, as well.

I will, once again, be back with a tournament. This year is the BAD GAME BEATDOWN 2 - THE REVENGE! Things are going to be a little different, though. I'll be joining forces with All Your Base Games and sharing a portion of his table space, and he will be sponsoring the tourney with prizes as well. Like last year, players will have to endure one of the worst games in my collection to win a prize. That game will not be revealed until the very moment of the tournament, though. It could be any game of any genre for any system. Yes, that includes the Virtual Boy or the CDi (oh, man, a CDi Zelda tourney...what fun that could be). I'll also be dressed up as the Angry Video Game Nerd, so if you see a nerd looking...well, angry, that'll be me.

Hope to see you all there!

It has been long over due! But OVGE Headquarters has successfully relocated and we can resume late stage planning and getting ready for the show!

The website has been updated and has all current Vendors and Exhibitors listed. We have new faces this year so be sure to take a look and see and get your buying and trade lists ready for June 16th!

Might be able to squeeze one or two more tables into the ever growing layout but do send those emails if you want to reserve space or be placed on a cancellation list.

Thanks again everyone for your support of this event now in its ninth year and we will see you all in a few weeks!

So, another OVGE in the can. It was incredible. This year was easily the busiest yet. I mean a non stop stream of attendees from open to close.

I had close to 50 people sign up for the Bad Game Beatdown, if you can believe it. This year I chose Rise of the Robots on the SNES as the torture game, and oh man, was it ever bad. What really determined who won was the rock-scissors-paper game I had everyone play before their match. Since you can ONLY play as the blue cyborg guy on the player one side, that player was at a serious disadvantage due to him being seemingly weaker than the other characters. Anyway, the winner got a nice 50 dollar gift certificate to All Your Base Games, and 2nd place got a 25 dollar gift cert. and a nice PS2 fighting stick.

Everything was just great this year. Jordan Hamilton did a recreation of the Nintendo World Championships tournament using a reproduction cart. I totally sucked at this, actually. The winner? A guy who was actually in the ORIGINAL NWC tournament, and who to this day still keeps in contact with Thor Ackerlund, the winner of the original contest. How cool is that? Brad Prillwitz did an Atari 7800 Scramble tourney, and a Track and Field tourney using the original controllers where you had to mash the buttons as fast as you could. Was fun, but MAN those controllers kill your hands. The classic game tourney was won by the guy who won LAST years tourney, and for like the 3rd year, I came in 2nd, but it was pretty darn close this year.

I won a copy of Duke Nukem Forever (just can't stay away from those awful games it seems) from the Nintendo Okie trivia contest, and you can hear me in one of their upcoming podcasts. So, overall, it was a great, great show. Much thanks, again, to Jesse for setting everything up. And my personal thanks to Tabor and the guys at All Your Base Games for sponsoring me (and giving me a cool "Somebody set up us the bomb" t-shirt). It was truly a show I'll never forget. Now, to think on what horrid game to use in NEXT year's tournament...
