What are the best classic gaming podcasts out there? I'm looking for stuff to listen to on my trip out to the MGC.  Are there any podcasts dealing with classic arcade games at all?

Has gotten too bloated with filler crap not related to gaming esp the British Hour or as I call it the BS hour I listen for the Top 10 and MAME and Atari segments

I like the Retro League and Mech Taco. Retronauts is hit or miss with classic stuff.

does "All Gen" ever actually practice what they preach and talk about any video games made before 1985?

No, they don't. That's why I stopped listening to them.

Go to this extremely long thread for blunt, biased, and sometimes downright cruel reviews of classic video gaming podcasts.

Well... they are about too, as I just joined the All Gen Gamers podcast this week and I'm older than all of them. Cut my teeth on the 2600 and then used a C64 for all of the 80s. After that, I worked at Sierra On-Line for most of the 90s, so I will also be bringing more PC gaming to the show too.

BTW: This week, they interviewed Ernest Cline, who wrote the amazing love letter to the 80s: Ready Player One. Check it out!

thats good to hear MJ.  I like your youtube stuff.  i also like the hosts of all gen, but i hate it when people pretend history began in 1985.

and to SJ, thanks for the kind words on that thread about my show Now You're Playing With Podcast.  More shows are on the way... we are a monthly show.

I've listened to a few of the allgengamers.  They are hit or miss and sometimes are bit too morning rushhour zoo radioish for me(know what I mean?).  The two who I feel bring the most older gaming related knowledge to that show is Gamester81 and Johnny Millenium.  With Johnny leaving I wonder how Metal Jesus Rocks will do it.

I've been a listener of the Retro League since their early shows.  Hands down my favorite and I never miss a show.

This summer I discovered the Implant Games podcast and I'm really enjoying that show too.  Kris and Austin appear to be into the same types of retro games I am so they are really enjoyable for me.

I've been digging Retrogaming Radio again - glad to hear it back on the air, so to speak.  Love the shoutcasted old episodes, too.

Retrogaming Roundup all the way.  At 5-6 hours per show, I guess I can see how some would think it contains frivolous content, but that's kind of their thing.  I drive 70 miles round trip for work, so the long shows are ideal for me.

here's an update of what I'm listening to:

AllGen Gamers- decent retro content from a group of YouTube personalities. Johnny Millennium recently left for awhile, & is being relieved by MetalJesus, who I must admit I've become a fan of. I dont think "AllGen" can stand for all generations of gamers, since some content/language is risque. Hosts are currently bonkers over the not-so-great "Ready Player One" book.

Player One Podcast- more current gen talk than retro, but well-presented by gaming media veterans from EGM, GameNOW, etc who know their stuff. & Phil's humor is infectious & actually serves the podcast well.

Radio Free Nintendo- same as above, very professional presentation. Some retro discussion every so often. Has become a bit dry/dull to me the past few weeks, I'm considering unsubs. but still torn.

Retrogaming Roundup- likely the best retro bet. LONG episodes w/ nearly 100% retro content. The podcast has come a long way, for the better.

Retro League- kindof a "Retrogaming Roundup lite" considerably more businesslike in presentation.

Retrogaming Radio- Shane Monroe's latest effort, a veteran w/ some interesting discussion but IMO not as good as Shane thinks.

Retronauts- similar to Player One in host knowledge, nearly to a fault. Like Retrogaming Roundup, has new life thanks to a new group of hosts who make an effort.

IMPLANTGamers- enjoyable little show, they discuss Jaguar WITHOUT bashing it.
