I need glasses badly. the S and the D are right next to each other... so sorry.. but how did I make you look like an ass? I'm totally confused on that one.... Just need to keep the roms out of it(like I actually had to say that...) take your time, as I said, I have a few AtariAgers on the lay-away plan and yes the file server would be for updates that are too big to distribute comfortably. as for roms. we shall not speak of that.... archives will be individually password protected/encrypted... no public disucssion of roms... when I post a private link to a customer who requires and update it will be for that customer only and shared as an "update to coinops" or something like that. I'm relieved I did not offend... Mark Wolfe Posted November 3, 2012 Author Share Posted November 3, 2012 great link, thank you. will add it to the list., I opened up about four DVD drives, cleaned 'em out there are two basic types as far as I can tell for the xbox 1 [i'm sure this is not news to the old heads in the xbox scene] so far one of them was fixed by my cleaning it, I have not tested the others but the fifth one left I have not cleaned is stuck so this will help. thanks and keep the info flowing folks. all this will be added to a large FAQ file that is being put together watching this one too, http://youtu.be/LrMF1ve_1Rw came up in a list after the original video was done, thanks scott33... very helpful If I can fix broken DVD drives I can keep my costs down for these xbox setups... the more help and knowledge i get, the cheaper it is for folks who want to buy an emulation rig from me EDIT: this is a very EASY fix but it does not address both kinds of DVD drives and there are mirrors involved, both sides need to be cleaned, and you need canned air.... he missed the canned air... but I like the way he opened it without removing the dvd drive,,, this will only work on the Thompson version of DVD drive though not the Samsung... the samsung has screws on the bottom and back so ya gotta take apart the whole thing but I'd love to read more tutorials, see more vids especially and get the low down. one tutorial actually had you take apart the entire DVD drive and remove the laser... no way I'm doing that. if it coms to that, trash that puppy nd buy another broken xbox for $10 and fix THAT one. keep 'em comin' wolfeman Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I had one in my Halo green xbox and it was a no go to clean/fix it, but of the four I cleaned two worked, and one did not, the other I have not tested yet... not too shabby again, tips tricks links to the various drives and the best ways to clean them... I hate the idea of removing the laser assembly, that seems like too much work to me, has anyone out there done this? is it a pain? what is the advantage to removing it? Mark Wolfe Posted November 5, 2012 Author Share Posted November 5, 2012 I am getting SO many new possible customers and actual customers. running low on stock on certain things, no more free duck or 3rd party contrllers. had to raise price on normal controllers from $5 to $8. I added a lot more inventory, light guns, hi-def cables. raw xboxes getting harder tio find in bulk, some sellers seem to think they are worth $50 and up even when untested or not working... I keep wondering what drugs they are on. still able to find xbxoes in a low enough price range i do not yet have to raise prices but this may change I still recommend ordering an xbox without working DVD drive. with the modded xbox and an FTP client, you do not need the thing anymore... this is not advice based to sell busted xboxes, the savings are indeed passed onto the customer. But as time goes on it will be harder and harder to find working DVD xboxes.
