No, Russ, please, port the NES version of Desert Commander over the CV :D

I'm kidding but that would be sweet as I already worked on the GFXs ;)

I never played desert commander. I have a near mint boxed copy in my collection and almost fired it up a few times. i'm guessing it's a good game then?!

Desert Commander is a really great game actually!

turn base military combat game

The version I'm working on the CV is named: Head to Head War

No, Russ also making Ipod games :)

Thanks for clearing that up JF, Yes i also make iOS games when i get time. you can find all my apps in the itunes appstore by searching for russ kumro. sadly my ratings are slowly going to crap but oh well. my arkanoid game 'Stackster', just got a full free version (with ads, but only on the stage complete screen) a few weeks ago! I made 88 cents in ads, so i can retire early :) maybe not.

I will say i really enjoy coding on coleco more and the crowd appreciates my efforts more on coleco! Read the nasty hateful comments i've got on my games in the appstore, people expect some ultra high work for 99 cents.

PS. i know this is a shameless plug for my games, if you want me to remove this post let me know and I'll remove it, in case I'm violating any policies!

Take care

Russ

Monster Bash! Why don't you use the MegaCart for that, so you can add all the stuff you were planning?

Actually i would love to use the megacart. I just need someone to show me how to code for it and what i would need to know to rearrange my code to make it work. my limitation is I'm mainly a C coder, dont know all that much assembler which i fear is needed to code the megacart? if not let me know and i'd love to make the game bigger!!!!

If you have any sample source to share on megacart examples PM me :)

Take care,

Russ

no offense taken at all. there are plenty of people that dont like apple and i can more then understand why! I never did much with android still. seems like a nice os. If there was a nice android tv set box that used a real game controller then i would likely consider android dev.

Thanks for the info, somehow i missed that one! that is exactly what i was looking for!

Ya the Ouya is a new system coming out that I'm super exicted for :lust: They have a kick starter program for it with the goal of raising $950,000 and they blew that away in less than 48 hours! They have made almost $6,000,000! I think this thing will be huge and I can't wait to get one!!

Heres the link http://www.kickstart...eo-game-console

WOW! I just saw that ONLIVE will be available on the system also! This thing will be amazing!

Well, not to derail this thread further, but I think it's fair to say that "huge" is relative. 40,000 backers and counting is impressive, and they may very well double that before all is over, but those are still minuscule numbers when looking at the big picture against other platforms and how success is typically measured. Getting OnLive was certainly a big win, but there are many, many unanswered questions about this, on top of the fact that it's very difficult - particularly the smaller the company - to launch what is essentially a new platform both from a hardware and software standpoint (even though it's just another forked Android). There's also the big question of whether this will get mostly phone games ported to this, or we'll genuinely see quality support from the development community. In short, it's a very, very tall order to see this thing through, and, even if they do, to see what will happen if they actually do get it released (in other words, if the public at large will respond, so they can get more than a few hundred thousand owners, which beyond a niche, a platform doesn't make). I wish them the best of luck, but I'm holding off supporting them for a variety of reasons, despite the fact that I regularly support things on Kickstarter and try to own every platform ever. I know others have similar reservations.

In a related note, I DID put in a pre-order for a Vizio Co-Star, which should ship within a few weeks and also costs just $99. It's a Google TV box with HDMI pass-through and OnLive support...

The thing is it doesn't haft to be at the same level as Nintendo or Sony but they do need to have a level of marketing so that people know that it is out there. I think thats the real question mark. With the help of Android marketing it and word of mouth I think it has a very good chance at being successful. As long as its in stores like best buy and walmart I think people will pick it up on impulse. Think about it if its next to a xbox or ps3 shows the same games on the box but is only $99 what parent won't jump on that. I also think the hard core game fans that like open source will support this to the point of being very successful also. Hell just using it as a emulator machine makes it well worth $99 to me. This system could play every retro game ever made.

It would be neat to publish a game or two for an android based console for the TV that uses a real controller, i admit i would focus on bullet hell shooters similar to Cave, If i dev for it. But i'm sure there will be a tidal wave of shovel ware and that might cause consumers to loose interest quickly. it will be interesting to see if development quality standards start emerging from Ouya to avoid the quality of games you see on xbox360 indie channel?! I will say there are some amazing indie 360 games, but there is a lot of junk to shovel through to find the good ones and after so-long you get tired of searching and loose interest all together, that i think will be their biggest issue! I do admit i released a 360 indie puzzle game "Puzzle Defusion" and it's ok, not console quality but it was one of the first 20 indie games that went live back in 2008. I think it's still at 3 out of 5 stars last i checked. it was fun coding for the 360, but microsoft used a peer review system to get your games to pass validation to go-iive in the marketplace (not sure if that is still the case these days), so if you did'nt kiss enough butt with the other developers in the forums, you could not win the 6 or 8 votes needed to get your game pushed for go-live. Sadly there was a really nice upgrade to my game that did not pass peer review and as a result the crappier version is stuck as the live version.

Here is my youtube video of the game in action for anyone curious.

Bill, looking forward to seeing your film "gameplay". please keep us posted when it's done/available. I love a good game documentary :)

I agree with you 100% I was really into the indie games on the Xbox when it first came out but lost interest real fast because I got tried of downloading games just to erase them. I also got tried of just looking for games because I never new when they would come out. I'm hoping they have a nice front end, a rating system, and have a release day. I think having one day a week that games come out on is important even if its 10 or 20 games on that one day it should be only one day. I don't like looking to see whats new every day of the week. I just stop looking. Plus its nice to look forward to that one day of the week.

I think cave like games on this system would be awesome and you could do some cool stuff with the controller and the touchpad, like changing weapons or maybe even fixing your ship on the touch pad all while dodging bullets with the controller :lust:

There is some cool possibilities with this

Back on topic:

Love, love, love the game! Fantastic work by all involved in the production, which has been a 30-33 year wait! Daniel B.'s audio programming is outstanding, and on-par with later-generation consoles (e.g., NES) in my opinion! Russ K.'s programming is wonderfully clean and just super impressive! Box, manual, and overall packaging is right on.

My only criticism revolves around not giving credit to the composers of the song. We all know who these artists are, and I presume there were fears of high-up execs frowning on the use of said song. However, that unfortunately is invalid and credit must be given where credit is due. Not only is this my opinion, but it does revolve around legal code and all that mumbo-jumbo.

As liberal as I am, and as much as I feel that giant corporations don't need our money [for such a small homebrew effort], said composers are due their proper recognition on packaging, manual, and electronic coding.

That is all. Someone had to say it! :P
