That's why I said, it's strange ;)

Now with the Side removed on the 800xl+U1mb and SDX enabled from U1mb, this now just goes to a blue screen when turned on, no booting, not even while holding the Start button do you hear the buzz for cassette.  But if I hold down Option, U1mb boots to SDX.  Typing CAR says Not Present,  typing BASIC just freezes...

With the Side removed on the 130xe+U1mb and SDX enabled from U1mb, U1mb boots to SDX.  Typing CAR says Not Present,  typing BASIC says Not Present...

Must be *Ghosties* in the machine ;)

i can imagine a scenario with false positive - ie sdx enabled on ultimate board, and side cartridge working in sdx mode resulting in the same register being reused both by ultimate and side for sdx banking (and thus programming wrong flash chip)
i'll get you an ultility that will restore basic soon, sorry for that

I probably should have flashed the SIDE on a stock 130XE, just in case, but mistakes happen...
No big hurry, but thanks for looking into this :)

Sebastian, did you change something in the updater .xex?
This time I upgraded without problems from SIDE loader.

jacques: you'll end in half of loader missing
Philiasan: i did exclude false-positive test for side, so it's not possible to damage ultimate flash content in the process (or at least i think so)

Warning,  If you have used Mr. Atari's SIDE bios upgrade, Do Not use this flasher :skull:
Leave it to me to find out that they are not compatible :-o

I went to reflash the Side.rom after doing so and temporarily bricked it!!!

On my xl's and xe's, all the SIDE would do is show a purple screen and the Sio2sd wouldn't respond.  So I pulled out an 800 and booted Mr. Atari's ATR bios upgrade from the sio2sd, then inserted the SIDE in the 800's cart slot, after a few tries and reboots, I was finally able to reflash it and un-brick it :)

Now to find the sidefinal.rom and restore it back to original so I can use this update to the SIDE Loader...

Yep, the sdx 4.44 has the full install and sdx 4.45 has the update...

Good news is that the SIDE cart is now fully back up to date :)
Bad news is that I goofed up and used the 130xe+U1mb to do the flashing (thought I had the stock 130xe) and the U1mb's memory got wiped clean :?
Guess I'll have to reprogram it through the Xlinx ?

you got u1mb flash chip wiped?
uh...
not through xilinx, through any cheap flash chip programmer, you'll need plcc extraction tool too (STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!)

Yep, when using the sdx 4.44 flasher that uses the 512k image,  when the flasher asked if I want to clear, I said yes and then a few seconds later the screen went all screwy and froze...
My willem has the mx29f040 in it's device list which appears to be the same as the am29f040 and I do have the plcc extraction tool, so no broken plcc sockets :)

I've taken down the SIDE images on my site. Note they're just standard SDX flashers I got from Trub / KMK - I just add some files to them.

So - what am I gonna wreck testing this? :D

Okay, to clear things up... If I have the troublesome chip and SIDE gets bricked with side-update.xex, what's the way to fix it?
And where can I download the latest version of standalone SIDE-loader file , the same which is included in side-update? Candle's SPIFLASH site contains only the old ones, I guess.

side-update.xex doesn't brick the SIDE on it's own, that happened as a result of a few things in this order:
1) Installing Mr. Atari's SIDE bios upgrade.
2) Flashing the side-update which made it unusable, but can still be flashed again after a reset.
3) Flashing just the single 8k SIDE rom without flashing the 512k sdx 4.44 image first!

Since the XL/XE OS will lock up when a cartridge is inserted after powered up, I used the 800 to unbrick it by running the sdx 4.44 flasher, then when prompted to ready the SIDE for flashing you insert the SIDE in the left slot very fast and if you did it right you can continue the flashing...

Not blaming you one bit Jon (or anyone else)  :)  I just seem to have a habit of finding these things ;)
Only thing messed up is an unusable U1mb, but should be cleard up when I can get the OEM rom image to re-program it...

Original SDX or OEM rom images can be found here:  http://sdx.atari8.in...how=en_download
SDX_445_images.zip.

This is only a 256k rom and leaves room for the 8k rom this is on Candles Site..  I don't know forsure which files Jon added to the set he made up but I never used his.  I just loaded them to partition folder and made an Autoexec.bat file to load the one's need..

Yep, that is only the SDX image.  I'll need the full image that includes SDX, U1mb Bios, the 4 OS's, basic and game image ;)

But, thanks anywho :)

ultimate-test-d3e2.rom should be good, but don't know if its the latest
you might want to reflash sdx part then, but rest of the layout will be ok

Okay,  the willem had the a29040a (no "b") in it's device list and the plcc is now fully programmed and working in the 130xe :)
The U1mb bios from ultimate-test-d3e2.rom is the older version, but I did read the plcc out of the 800xl, so I might be able to copy the bios from that and patch the "d3e2" rom...

So if you need a tester for the U1mb flasher, I can help out now that I know I can reprogram it with the willem in case of an error ;)
