LX.NET
Is somebody aware of an emulator on any platform not based on Handy ? Or is Handy the only source around ? A while ago I searched the internet for every possible Lynx emulator. Almost all emulators are based on the Handy source code. Even Mednafen is based on the Handy source code. Here is a shortlist of the emulators that I found are surely based on Handy: GizHandy GP2XHandy GPLynx Handy for DEC Alpha Handy for MacOS Handy++ Handy2X HandyAcorn HandyAmiga HandyPSP HandySaturn HandySDL HandyWiz Lyngoo Lynxbox Mednafen MednafenX PHandy PLynx WiiHandySDL XHandy HandyGP The only emulator (with source code or documentation stating so) that are not based on or ports of Handy are MetaLynx and possibly PocketLynx and MESS. MetaLynx has been inactive/dead for many, many years and I have never managed to get it to work. I have contacted the programmer of PocketLynx a while ago to ask about the source code, but didn't receive it. For MESS you should contact raisinland, who is working on the Lynx part in MESS. I believe he is building it from scratch, but he's the one to know. As for my emulator (Windows based using .NET), it is written from the ground up, but uses some of the techniques that Keith Wilkins has used for Handy (such as sprite rendering and the parts of the sound mixing). If you have any particular reason for asking this question, such as missing support of some things, or bugs in the emulation, please let me know. It will be great if we can work some of the bugs out or improve certain support.
obschan
Thank you LX.NET for this exhaustive answer, I will have a look at MESS. Nothing really particular yet, facing issues in dev and just trying to find different sources to get a better understanding of the hardware.
