Heaven/TQA
here a sneak preview of some hours of work... it will probably become an full fledged intro but we will see... main idea was to bring back one of my fave atari 8 tune done by Uwe Loos. the gfx effect is PAL only at the moment but the code has an NTSC check so actually the music should play correctly. or you run it in Altirra. uwl_msx.xex
Rybags
Nice - wouldn't it look a lot smoother if you based each scanline's GTIA mode (luma or paletted) on the low bit of the Sine curve? Then maybe use the missiles @ the sides to mask the combing effect.
Heaven/TQA
Rybags what do you mean? Mode9/10 lines are screwed when $d404 are odd?
Heaven/TQA
But I guess you mean line mode switch based on the sin value. But could be tricky as the dlist needs to be altered plus background color. I thought of that, too. But forgot it while posting.
Rybags
Why would the DList need to be altered? They're both Mode F with Prior = $40 or $80 - instead of simply alternating lines, you decide what mode to use depending on the finest scroll bit. Then bits 1-3 go into HSCROL. emkay
Nice little Demo. It shows particulary how "dedicated movement" makes Interlace less recognizable.
MaPa
I see that your Altirra is doing horizontally stretched screenshots too
Heaven/TQA
MaPa... called "widescreen 16:9" no don't know why.
Heaven/TQA
Rybags. DLIST needs to be altered, too, necause the gfx data is different of the mode9 lines compared to the mode10 lines.
Heaven/TQA
MK. should be looking much better on TV than on TFT.
Rybags
OK... I understand now. Pixel values in Mode 10 can't match Mode 9 thanks to the palette entry limitation. So doing my idea would cost a bit. But what if it was done in character mode? You could have the graphics represented in 2 fonts - 1 for each mode, then just change Chbase. Although the badlines might mean not enough time to do all the changes. But you could use the VScrol trick to produce a "never ending" character - like Peter Dell did on the demo that had the rotation between 2 pictures. Next idea in my bloatware stream of suggestions - make the amplitude/period of the sine curve reactive to the music.
Heaven/TQA
first intention was to use charmode but I wanted to have a quick check for this mode "pre-hip" mode called IMP. and I studied Peter's code. and I played around with scrolling then to get a feeling. charmode might be raster time consuming. The intro will be involved in much more. and you should know me that I am not using a simple sin-table in the final the vscroll trick looks interesting. Heaven/TQA
but the msx is great... I wanted to bring Uwe's music back to life. it is more than 20 years old...
