I had picked up a Miner 2049er cart a short while back... and as I've had my four-port system hooked up for a while, I popped it in to play, and it wouldn't work... so I was a bit frustrated that I purchased a cart that was dead on arrival.. I accepted the loss, and had sought out to purchase another in due time...

well, tonight, I had hooked up one of my two-port consoles, basically to test as I have a friend who is having issue with his (four-port) console, and was going to loan him my spare so he could enjoy playing 5200 without issue... so I'm explaining to a feirnd that of all my 5200 games, I only had one that was dead... and wanted to demonstrate, so I place Miner 2049er into the two-port system, press power, and... IT STARTS UP!!!
I press start and play a few games and I'm enjoying the game, and extra happy that the cart in which I thought was DOA, does in fact work!

so we already know that Mountain King, K-Razy Shoot-out, and Pitfall will not work on a two-port console... is Miner 2049er the only game that will not work on a four-port console? has anyone else experienced these issues with this game?

I tried every trick to get it to work, cleaned it thoroughly... and, nothing!

I put it in the two- port console and started up straight away, and it had been sitting for well over a month since I last fooled with it, as I left it for dead...

I have both 2 and 4 port models, and Miner 2049er works alright on both.

I also have that same style Miner 2049er cart, and it doesn't seem to like my 4 port much. I didn't try to clean it or anything but it wasn't working for me the other day.

My old copy worked fine on my 4-port, perhaps yours is a different ROM revision?

Did you clean the console or the cart? The console cart slot can get tarnished with age as well.

I cleaned the cart thoroughly, I had only just cleaned the connector in the console with rubbing alcohol... all other games work without issue, though some Activision games seem loose when inserted, and may not start first try, but will fire up...

I have both the gold and colored label version of Miner and they both work on my 4-port.

Try professional contact cleaner. I've had the same thing happen when contacts on either cart or deck get too much tarnish buildup. Alchol didn't work for me. So I switched to contact cleaner and conditioner for contacts. DeoxIit works great. More expensive but have had great results. Good luck!

well,  I will give contacts cleaner a try... the wife may wonder what I'm doing with her contact stuff, but it's worth a try! I'll be hooking the four-port back up this evening so I will clean it up some more and try out the Miner 2049er cart again...

Hello, I meant electronic contact cleaner. I hope it's not eye contact cleaner. You can pick it up at Radio Shack, or most hardware stores have something similar. Again use electronic contact cleaner. Spray a Qtip with it and keep wiping until the Qtip is clean, should have dirt on it if dirty. If the buildup or tarnish is really on there may have to take the cart apart. Another thing to try is find an old or useless credit card, cut it to shape of cart connector on the deck, then use a paper towel. Spray with cleaner and stick it in and out a few times and see if that helps. Hope it works.

Agree, electrical contact cleaner is good for the job.

Another thing is 400 sandpaper between the system contacts a couple times, then a toothbrush with isopropyl into the pin slot to follow up. My hesitation with paper towel or anything stretched over a credit card is that bits of it could get stuck down inside the system pins. Toothbrush leaves nothing behind except clean pins.

ah, ok... I'm sorry for misunderstanding! I'll swing by the local radio shack after work and see if I can find it and then give the console a thorough cleaning... thank you for the tip (and clarification) a proper cleaning can't hurt and I'll see if I can get this Miner 2049er cart to run in my four-port!

My bad, should have been more clear. Ask them what types of electronic contact cleaners they have. Least expensive should be around $5, Deoxit is the best but is more expensive. Removes dirt and tarnish great. But get what you can afford, believe me I understand. Good luck and hope it works for you!

Good point about that. I used air to spray out any residue if I see any.

I have the red cart with the non picture gold label, works fine in my 4 port * model.

Try cleaning the contact pins with an eraser and wipe off with a small clean paint brush or can of air. Use Contact Cleaner if the pins are in bad shape. The cleaner has a slight acid quality, no reason to spray on easy to clean pins. Abosolutely do not use any sand paper which removes metal.

Use cloth/linen, not paper towel with the credit card.
