How do you burn Sega Saturn games?

I've always been a fan of Sega Saturn, and would love to try some different game for it. But the current prices for most Saturn games are pretty expensive. I heard you can burn copies of Saturn games using programs like IMG Burn and Alchol 120%. I tried a game and didn't have any luck. Can someone please if it isn't to much to ask tell me step by step how to burn Saturn games, and what all programs I need.

I haven't installed a mod chip. But did open it up and tape down the part that can tell if the disc tray is opened, so I could do the swap trick easily.

I am wondering the same thing. I have a modded system. I have only tried grabbing one game, but it was in a different format than what you usually find with burning 3DO, Sega CD, Neo CD, or CD-i games.

There is absolutely nothing special needed to burn Saturn games. They are posted in standard ISO format and can be burned with any software supporting that format.

Might have been, but it was likely still a common/standard format. Imgburn should have no trouble with whatever you found.

It's possible the image you got was posted by someone that like to use proprietary image formats, like Nero's NRG. Keep looking and you're bound to find the game you want in ISO format.

Yeah, I have a feeling that's probably what it was. Funny enough, Nero is what I use, so it might have been for one of the other programs available. I'll make it a point to track one down in the next couple of days since I'll be off work. I've yet to test if my mod even works with backups.

no, that only works for genuine import games, you need a mod chip to enable cd-r use. A mod chip+Action Replay and you are good to go with copy imports!

 

As for burning the images, some are in odd formats, such as bin+cue etc etc, I use Img Burn which copes with most stuff.

I use Fireburner, and burn at a slow speed. If you want to burn imports, remember that you don't need a 4-in-1 or anything. Just use the Saturn Region Patcher software to change the region of the image before you burn it.

Yeah, that's another option. Also, you could region-mod your Saturn. Mine turns Japanese if I hold down the reset button.

2. Get the 4-in-1 Pro Action Replay so you circumvent the region lock and play the full library of Saturn games (minus KOF '95 and Ultraman).

3. When you burn games, burn them at the slowest possible speed. If you try to whip through the burning process, the Saturn won't be able to read the discs.

4. Some games come in BIN/CUE format, and may include a lot of MP3s. You can't burn MP3s as redbook audio; these must be converted to WAV first, and all references to MP3 must be changed to WAV in the CUE file. The CUE file is a simple text file and can be opened and edited in Notepad.

A good burning app (like ImgBurn) will handle that MP3 business for you automatically. Just load up the CUE file & burn. And you don't need to use the absolute slowest speed, as that may not be the best for your burner or media.

That's always been a headache for us Classicists, though, since the Colosseum (yes, there are two spellings, believe it or not!) wouldn't be start to be built until after Nero was deposed.

If you made backups of your own games, UltraISO seems like a great program. I always choose to create bin/cue because that stores all the audio track information in the image instead of separate .wav files. When you burn them back onto the disc using IMGburn, the audio files play back on the disc when they are supposed to. If you use the ISO format instead, you can get problems like audio tracks not playing and such. Just some advice to keep in mind. This also goes for Sega CD, 3DO, TurboGrafx-16 CD, Neo Geo CD and Playstation. Dreamcast is the oddball that needs a program like DiscJuggler to do the job because you are bypassing GD-Rom and converting it to CD-Rom so it needs that special track at the beginning.

 

I had someone modchip my Saturn to play burned discs but also install a Unibios so it could boot legit or burned copies of any region game on top of that without the need for Action Replay. Of course if I wanted to do a PAL game I would need a monitor that accepts those kinds of signals. The mod job cost me some good money but it's worth it not to waste money on bad games. There's a lot of treasure to be found on Saturn but it is good to be able to see for yourself what you like instead of blindly spending money on every game in existence as if they would all fit in your home. (Of course some people have large enough homes to do that, or a storage unit or two.)

I tried coping a Saturn game,A pal game from the ISO Zone with ImgBurn,just like how I did it with mega cd games and when it comes to verifying the CD it can't read the first track and comes up with errors but I do the same thing with a Mega CD image (Cue/bin) and they work fine...?
