Set for release this autumn, the game will feature completely re-mastered versions of Doom 3 and the Resurrection of Evil add-on pack, as well as "hours of new content" in the form of seven new levels entitled 'The Lost Mission', plus the original Doom and Doom 2.

The game has been optimised in 3D and feature 5.1 surround sound, Achievements and Trophies, improved rendering and lighting, plus a new checkpoint save system.

"id Software has fine-tuned the controls to bring the intensity of the Doom single and multiplayer experience to the consoles, and Doom 3 now features the new armour-mounted flashlight, allowing players to illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time," the announcement adds.

Blocked at work--is this going to be a retail release, or download-only? Regardless, I'm all over it. Loved DOOM 3 (the expansion was all right, too), and it will be great to play it with upgraded visuals. Looks to me like they are trying to get people interested in the series again, to prep for the launch of DOOM 4.

At the end of the video it shows three game cases, one for each of the consoles and one for PC. That leads me to believe it is going to be retail.

I want to be impressed/excited, I really do, but I already own Doom 1, 2, and 3, and this looks just like D3.
So it's Doom 3 with an expansion? I hope it's cheap.

I just hope they fix the damn flashlight problem the game had. I couldn't play it for that crap, just got old.

the ever-frustrating flashlight issue is being resolved with "the new armor-mounted flashlight.

so it'll probably be like other fps' now where you press a button and its on instead of having to switch back&forth.

Hope there's an option for the other way. I can't imagine having a flashlight on all the time will do the atmosphere of the game any good.

Glad I never got around to buying Resurrection of Evil on the Xbox. Might as well just buy this someday instead.

Two expansions, if that's how you want to look at it: Resurrection of Evil (the original expansion), and then whatever new one they are making just for this release. I got to check out the video when I got home from work, and admittedly the visuals don't look very "enhanced". Still, it's going to be a damn-solid package for anyone that hasn't had much experience with this series.

I too am curious about the pricing though. I predict something along the lines of $40, similar to Halo Anniversary. I hope it's not more than that.. But I'd be lying if I said I won't buy it if it's $60, haha..

Yeah, same here. A lot of people complained about the flashlight issue--and I suppose I understand why--but like you said, it had a major effect on the atmosphere, and it didn't bother me much (if at all). I don't have a problem with the change, but being the purist I am, I hope there is at least an option to play the old way.

*edit: I just realized another benefit to this being released--the Resurrection of Evil expansion for PCs has an issue installing on 64-bit operating systems. It's a pain in the ass to get working, so it will be nice not having to bother with that version any longer.

I'll probably get this, I played it some on the original Xbox and liked it. Kind of scared me out of my pants at times. :P
I hope it's fairly inexpensive though. Not a $59.99 tag.

I think Doom 3 and Quake 4 on the Xbox were the two darkest games I ever played. Enjoyed both of them and might get this HD version of Doom, depending on its price.

It will be nice to see a Doom 3 and expansion that will run on these new PCs.

No, I play the games the way they were designed first.

If that sucks, I make fun of it.

Then I at least finish it (if its got enough strong points to make it worth the time)

then, I mod the shit out of it.  :)

Yep, and we will get that--this package is coming to PCs as well. :)

Keep in mind the old expansion likely works fine if you buy it via Steam. The problem stems from the .exe on the physical disc itself. It has a line in it that won't let it install if it's on anything other than a 32-bit OS. There are ways to modify the file after copying the disc to your PC, but it's a pain if you've never done it before.
