I'm trying to copy my games folder from the 1st SD card in my UltraSatan © to the 2nd card (D).
Currently the folder is 152 Folders and 1892 Files.
On my TOS 1.62 STe it will not copy all the files/folders. It stops right after my STARDUST folder.
Any reason why I can't copy everything in one attempt? I can just copy all the folders under STARDUST no problem.
Just wondering why it wont copy the whole thing with a single drag and drop.

On my Mega STe with 2.06 I am able to copy all the files / folders but it was to the Mega Ste's internal harddisk.

**edit.

Playing with it some more, I think there is a bad FAT entry in the GAMES folder itself.
In TOS2.06 when they pop up you can just select SKIP.
In TOS1.62 the operation just stops.

For some reason when using a WINDOWS/TOS compatible SD card it really doesn't seem 100% compatible. :)
I'll play more with this tomorrow.....

This problem is most likely caused by some LFN (long filename) in STARDUST folder. It confuses TOS.
You need to take care to not copy any LFN, and do not delete files in Recycle bin under WIndows - use full delete.
It is easy to work with Total Commander - set to 8.3 filenames and Delete not in Recycle Bin.
If encounter some LFN files, Recycle bin DIR or other system DIR (with longer name) must fully delete them in Windows - in TOS you can not do it.

Thanks for the advise.

Turns out there was an "invisible" folder in the GAMES folder itself that was causing the copy to fail.
I was able to create another folder and selected all the sub folders and they copied fine that way.
I did it on the Mega STe because 2.06 has the E option to select everything.
Does 1.62 have this option?

Right off the top of my head, no. You still have to lasso whatever you can, AFAIK.

Possible workaround, you could use a replacement desktop (or maybe fileselector?)
that will allow you to choose everything. Just a thought...

HTHs.

Instead doing copy with TOS use something much faster and more powerful :  http://atari.8bitchi...AQ.html#DutilSW
On that page are some relevant infos for Atari hard disk usage too.

Hi,

From my experiences with UltraSatan with STE/TOS 1.62, this kind of issue always comes from a hidden folder or hiden file.
I'm using a macbook air as my main computer, with a SD card Reader.
Every time you put something on the SD, MacOSX put its load of crap beside the files (hidden dot files, unix-style).
So basically, if you want to delete or move a folder with one of those files, TOS 1.62 just stops or tells you "Cannot Delete Folder".
For Macosx I found a tool called "Hidden Cleaner" to clean all of this unix-like filesystem crap.

Yes, modern OS-es like to write a lot onto disks. So is with Windows XP and later, MacOS ... With Linux I did not notice, although I don't have latest version(s) installed.
TOS is just not ready for such things.
Furthermore:  WinXP can destroy checksum of TOS hard disk MBR, what means that hard disk will not boot when connect back to Atari. It happens mostly on removable media - SD, CF cards. If there are zeros on some specific locations in MBR, WinXP will write there some signature/random, and adios boot checksum.  Happens with older versions of hard disk drivers/partitioners for Atari. For instance with Hddriver 7.80 .
Fixing is not big deal, though - reinstall driver or copy back MBR - if have it wisely saved.

Well, can't speak for them all, but using mtools under Kubuntu Linux 10.10 and 11.xx here,
I get no extra files or garbage when I transfer data back and forth between my linux box
and my Ultrasatan equipped STacy....
