Are those the default settings on ARMORED WARRIORS? I don't see the ability to set the dip switches on that game.

Any clues how to start NARC? I get a screen saying DEFAULT ADJUSTMENTS RESTORED...etc...then it just stays there...

NARC - Can't figure out how to start it

I should have thought of this before. It's a Williams game. Sometimes they can be weird to start up. It can usually be solve by a reset (F3). Here's what I did.

Started the game up and let it cycle through all of the test. You will get a message in a Red box. The last line says "High Score Table Reset." Hit F3. The game will reset and cycle again but this time it should take you to the game. If you think it takes a long time, you can toggle the MAME speed with F10. Just don't forget to hit F10 again when the game starts or you will have a hard time.

I went a head and changed Armored Warriors settings to just Internal Defaults while I was at it.

Wow, so many games. And I haven't heard of most of them. I won't have time to play them all, but I will try to play some of the ones that interest me.

Outfoxies, Pooyan and Black Panther are the only ones I know and I am not very good at any of them except for maybe Outfoxies.

I think I've only ever heard of are NARC and Gunforce...barely. Maybe I may have played them once or twice back in the day. Wasn't there a lot of hype about NARC for some reason?

Actually I played NARC. I was in middle school. I loved it in the arcade but the NES port was not as good. It was a quarter muncher. I have played Gunforce 2 some but not the 1st one.

I foresee MAME and Cyn putting up big scores on Bat and Varth

We'll see... M.O. has always been the master of shooters in our family. :) I've never played any of these games either, aside from 4-5 credits here or there.

As for NARC, I think it did gain a bit of notoriety. Yet another work from Eugene Jarvis (of Defender/Robotron fame), it was one of the earlier examples of gratuitous gore in an arcade game due to the body parts and guts that fly around when you use the missiles. I remember seeing it at a Dairy Queen near my grandma's back when it was new, and thought it was pretty wild. We went in there one day and they had accidentally left the coin door open on another game in the corner, so we kept running over and grabbing quarters to drop into NARC.

Armored Warriors - 545,000

In a lot of ways the typical quarter-sucking beat-em-up, but cooler than most I've played.

Batsugan - 650,850

According to Wikipedia, the guys behind this one left Toaplan when the company went under and went to Cave (Donpachi, etc.). The common lineage is pretty unmistakable. I like Batsugan though--the power-up system with the "experience" is interesting.

My son and I played through the whole thing the other day on a lot of credits. It gets cooler as you go on with the different gun attachments, arms, and legs. There's a tank bottom, and even hovercraft. It was a change from the everyday beat'em up. We had a blast fighting over who got what part.

Now that I've looked it up, I think I have played Pooyan before on one of those 100-in-1 carts for the NES.

BTW, NARC doesn't seem to reset your score when continuing. How odd. And when I first load it up, the info screen tells me it's 511x399, but then later if you go to game information it tells me 512x400. Strange. Anyways, that's pretty high for a 1989 game.
