I see it going higher all the time and wonder if I will get $70 worth of enjoyment out of this game.

Well, it's not the game's fault that it's currently valued at $70. I bought it and enjoyed it at $20 -- there's nothing quite like it in the 7800's library. If I was going to spend $70 on the 7800, I'd probably try to acquire Plutos, Sirius, Beefdrop, and Ninja Golf. :)

It's a great game, but if you aren't needing it CIB, you will find it for much less...as long as you are patient.  Even CIB it occasionally shows up in the $40 range here in the marketplace.

Benny, I know its OT but I love your forum pic.  The 2XL was one of my favorite toys!  Gotta get another one sometime!

So what is the game like anyway?  It looks kinda like Fester's Quest on nes.

It is a very unique RPG...I haven't played fester's quest, so I am not sure of the gameplay.  It involves traveling throughout the different sectors of the world and collect magical items / weapons to protect yourself.  Here is the manual:

A very fun game!

As for the 2XL...I still have mine from when I was a kid and it works! ;-)

Midnight mutants is very different from the other 7800 games, and its hard.
Without the map in the instruction manuel, you will get nowhere.
But, this game is very fun and is the type of game Atari should of made more of.

As far as the 70$ price for the game, it is a fair price considering the rarity and that I have seen it go for as much as 150 plus dollars on ebay, so 70$ is a fair price and you should get it.

As far as getting 70 dollars worth of enjoyment, id say not.
No atari game has an enjoyment level of 70 plus dollars, LoL

The price is high on some of these games because of the rarity, plus people selling on ebay usually get more for there products than they are worth.....its no secret.

If you don't want to spend 70 dollars on Midnight Mutants, you can always download it onto your computer from the internet.

But there's nothing like holding the actual cartridge and putting it in the machine.
That's the best part of retro video games that downloads on the internet can't reproduce.

Just spend the dam 70 dollars if you are trying to build a collection.
You won't find it new in the box anywhere for cheaper.

And like I said before, if you are a 7800 fan, then Midnight Mutants is a must have.
Goodluck.

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 110923689440

I just saw this...not mine. It doesn't have a box, but at least it has the manual and it is semi-affordable.  I hope it helps.

I had a feeling the price would keep going up on MM.I'm glad i bought 2 about 3 years ago.I have 1 sealed copy and 1 loose.I'd say the price is still worth it, it's a fun game. MM is a 7800 exclusive, can't play it anywhere else, i say get it if you can, it will only keep going up in price.I play it every Halloween.I paid around $50 for the sealed and about $35 for the loose IIRC.

Weather or not it is worth the going price is kind of a subjective thing, but I would definitely agree that it is one of the better and more original games on the 7800.  My main complaints are that the game is very difficult and I wish it had a password save system at the very least.

I do agree that it is only going to keep going up in price.  I paid $25.00 for it CIB three and a half years ago and I think now you would be lucky to get just the cartridge only for that.
