Sh3-rg and I have made some more progress :-

- Place holder graphics have all been replaced with the real things.
- Pause is working but needs a bit more work.
- Music/FX volume can be adjusted on the options menu.
- New high scores appear in the league table but with a fixed name.
- Other tweaks, optimisations and bug fixes.

I've had several ideas for high score name/initials entry. I just need to finalise on one and code it.

I have most of the graphics for the high score name entry screen and you can move a cursor over the selection of characters. Hopefully over the weekend it'll be fully working and saving to EEPROM too.

Its a lot of fun being a beta-tester instead of a coder for once! :)

I cant help myself to want to jump in tho.
Its a itch I cant scratch.

Whats new? :-

- High score page is fully working. You can move around the letters/digits grid, enter your initials, delete the last one etc. It needs a bit more embellishment and we haven't finalised the exact layout yet.
- Pause and the options menu are pretty much done.
- Plenty of optimisations.
- A few bug fixes.

Still to do :-

- EEPROM high score and options menu settings save/restore/erase.
- Tweaks to make the game more playable on a jag pad.

I'm also toying with the idea of adding a frame rate speed setting.

Good news! If it all goes to plan you'll be able to play the game on the AtariAge stand at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo (PRGE) next weekend the 29th-30th of September. On Sunday the 30th I'll be releasing playable binaries and the GPL'd source code too. There will not be any carts or CDs produced.

There is no need to be sad about the fact that its a binary and source release only. You can still play the game on a SkunkBoard, via BJL or CD (both to be confirmed - it hasn't been tested like that in a while). The game works fine in the Virtual Jaguar emulator too (maybe other emulators as well).

Not all games need an official cart or CD release in my opinion. If I'd developed the game from scratch and not used a previously reverse engineered SDL version by Paul Brook as a starting point then I might have considered it. Don't forget it started as a joke (as in a fun thing!) for a homebrewer's get together to put smiles on faces and for people to laugh about.

In my opinion its not fair to make money off Paul's back when all I've done is make it run at an acceptable speed on the jag. With sh3-rg's brilliant work revamping all the game's graphics its gone from a lowly "engine" to a full release.

Its always the way in games development. You set a deadline and you make last minute changes all the way up to it .

Nope, I just meant that people who attend sometimes have built cart versions of their own. That maybe the case here too!

It all went to plan :D. If you attend the Portland Retro Gaming Expo today/tomorrow you'll be able to play a beta of the game on the AtariAge stand. Many thanks to everybody who helped along the way.

I played the heck out of it. I littered the cart with my highscore initials. Though its not saying much. Very fun game GB! I kept getting killed on level 3. The escalator drove me nuts. :)
