what got you into intv?

I was lucky enough to have parents who were into the "cool" things too, I remember going to a family friends house and watching my dad play LV Poker and Blackjack and once he was hooked, it obviously was a no brainer. That following Christmas it came, along with Baseball and Armor Battle. Soon afterwards the library expanded until I had 40-50 games and continued playing along with college and marriage, kids blah.. blah.. I even remember hitting the clearance bins at Sears  after class .. Oh those were the days !! ;-)

I sold that one around 95/96 ? And rejoined the fun in 1999 when I bought another one at a yard sale and have been collecting/playing ever since :P

The clearnace bin. I remember living in nyc city and they had an early version of a dollar store, and most things were one dollar and they had loads and lods of games. i had only a few games until the clearance, they i racked up my collection and got the computer adapter formten dollars, and intellivoice for 5. those were the days.

Watching AVGN's video on it, and playing Intellivision Lives! for ps2 got me interested. But D2k Arcade is what made me want it right now! I was born in 84, so I never really experienced it during it's hayday, but I am very excited to be getting one in the next couple of days. I cannot wait to fire it up and experience some Intellivision goodness on the actual hardware.

It was my first system as a kid. My dad brought it home one night after work and that was it. I was hooked. 30 years later and I'm still talking about it :)

Same here, myndad worked next to some guy who owned an electronic shop and one day he just showed up woth an intellivision.

What got me into it was that it was old. I came up in the 16- and 32-bit eras, and pre-NES stuff was always fascinating to me. A friend of my brother's at the time had one that I bought off him, a boxed Sylvania system with ~15 CIB games.

I'd really wanted an Atari, but I kept finding out friends had stuff like Intellivision and Odyssey 2 squirreled away in their closets. So I ended up with that stuff before I'd even seen a 2600.

As far as being an "Intellivision Guy" or an "Atari Guy," I don't really subscribe to that, I don't think. I'm an all-around "Old Games Guy." I like 'em all!

A few years ago, I obtained slews of cart ROMs from the Internet for as many systems as I could find, even for systems I'd never even heard of, such as the ColecoVision and Intellivision. Soon after, I joined AA to rekindle my Atari 2600 childhood. After a few months hitting the 2600 forum hard, and hearing speak of other consoles, I started getting interested. Thus started my purchase and gaming of Coleco and Inty systems.

Because I grew up with the 2600, it is my love. But I have grown to appreciate the other systems, and give them game time, just about equal. I would consider my collecting to be general, without concentration on any particular console. Thanks to CMart and Rev, however, my Inty collection of games is 2nd in size (around 60), only trumped by my Atari 2600 games (around 120). Measly, I know, but I'm happy. :)

similar story i was playing an emulator and then decided to get the console and cartridges. I also remembered my first cheat before cheats was even a topic and i figured it out by accident on intv. Then .i made a bet with a friend that .i could get a higher score than him on bump n jump the real arcade. I won five dollars. for a kid at the time, that was a lot of money

I suppose I'm in the minority here, because I didn't own an Intellivision until I was in my early thirties. I'm not sure I even heard of the Intellivision as a kid, even though it was still a current console at the time; most of my family owned the Atari 2600 and/or the Atari 800.

My first exposure to the Intellivision was through a Night Stalker cartridge that I got for Christmas from my great-grandmother one year in the late 80s. She probably picked it up for me because she knew I was into video games, not knowing that I didn't own the system. I was intrigued by the overlays, and I think I tried to program my own version of Night Stalker on my TI 99/4A based only on the instructions. But it wasn't until years later that I finally got around to getting the Intellivision, and it's quickly become one of my favorite systems. And my main Cuttle Cart 3 board is currently "living" inside my great-grandmother's original Night Stalker cartridge.

My first cartridge based system was the Intellivision, which I still own/play. Received it for Christmas in 1980. My neighbor had a 2600, which I wanted until one day at the Galleria in Houston when I first was exposed to the Almighty Intellivision. To this day I have yet to purchase a 2600 (though I own a cherry 5200 thanks to Akator). Wanted a Colecovision, but I chose a Apple //e instead for Christmas 1983. Got a NES in 1988, switched to Sega, then PlayStation, then XBOX. The rest is history.

Stumbled across AA in April this year and went on a binge spending spree. Being inundated with work and vacations this summer have slowed me down temporarily. But I'm about to make a quick little run then chill again.

Here are pics of my original Intellivision 2609A (which I've posted before):

I had an Intellivision when I was a kid, and I played the heck out of it.

I had the Colecovision as well, with the expansion module 1, so I could play all three of the major systems.

Overall the Intellivision was definitely my favorite, though the Colecovision was a close second.

Once I started collecting, in the mid 90's, it was with the idea of trying to collect for the Inty and the Coleco....all the other stuff I was buying was

only supposed to be trade bait to help me collect Coleco and Inty.

All these years later, and the collection is massive....everything from Pong to PS3 and everything in between (so much for trade bait.)

But it's all due to the Intellivision and the Colecovision, that's the itch that started it all.

I never liked coleco bc i knew it would be intv downfall, coleco copied atari and focused on marketing and made their game seem more like the coin operated arcade games. i wonder if things would have been different if intv was released during themcommodore era, that is a juiced up intv 64 , with voice module and computer.
