Power Supply Question

I picked up a generic AC adapter a while back that closely matches the 2600 adapter, even has the same male end plug and polarity. The only difference is that it outputs 9v@1 amp versus 9v@500 mA on my Atari brand power supply. Will the extra amps damage my 2600 consoles over time if I use it regularly?
