Super Game Module now available for order

I didn't want to chime in here, but I feel that I have to...

IMHO, if you:

1.) haven't paid for an SGM yet

2.) aren't ever planning on purchasing an SGM

3.) plan on making your own clone version of the SGM

If you fall into any of the above categories, you probably shouldn't be blasting Eduardo with harsh comments. It is only adding fuel to an existing fire. I'm not saying that anyone is wrong in their opinions...I'm just saying that we should let the people who already paid for the SGM's get their merchandise. Continuing with the throwing of barbed comments isn't going to help the situation...at this juncture, I am pretty sure that everyone reading this thread knows the current score. If they should choose to pre-pay for an SGM now, after all that has transpired, that is their prerogative. Hopefully, that will work out for them, but if it doesn't, they can't pretend that they had no idea of the risk...there is almost 70 pages of this thread, so I would imagine that we are all able to formulate our own opinions on this matter and proceed accordingly.

Please understand...I am neither defending Eduardo, nor chastising him. I am simply stating that: Eduardo came back to AA...let's give him a chance to make good on the orders he already owes people. At this point, I think this is the first proper step towards sorting out this whole mess.

I don't want to ruin your rant, but Eduardo indeed published the SGM specs http://atariage.com/forums/topic/203851-super-game-module-technical-forum/ post #1 discusses RAM mapper and post #30 discusses sound chip.

Ah! Technical discussion. Great.

That's the spec that I used to build my clone, yes. What I came up with undoubtably differs from what's inside Eduardo's SGM -- I expect he used a small FPGA to store the RAM/ROM enable state and do chip select off of the bus lines, whereas I'm using an ATmega 324. What I was recommending was that he release a schematic and code, so that the community can reproduce it quirk-for-quirk.

My implementation, for example, stomps on the memory '138 the nanosecond it sees any memory access under 0x8000, but there's a couple of cycle delay while it checks to see if it should handle accesses from 0x0000 as well. Timing can be tricky.

(He can't honestly consider it to be proprietary, as the RAM bits are straight off of the ADAM expansion and the sound bits are from a random MSX machine)

Eduardo posted info of this anonymous buyer purchasing 10 SGM that were to be sold on eBay a long time ago. If anyone needs to see this post firsthand, get off your collective lazy assets and search thru this thread like I would do if I didn't recall this vividly. Seems to be an epidemic in today's society of no one wanting to do the leg work themselves!!!

Aside from that, I pray that everyone receives their SGM promptly and the page can finally be turned back to where it should be... enjoying this great hobby of ours and playing some games. You know, having FUN.

Define "no one" ;)

Well, since I asked for someone to quote the original post, NIAD must be talking about me. Guilty as charged, I guess.

Anyway, the post in question does state that the profits won't go to the buyer but to production costs, so I wanted to correct an earlier statement I made. A post Eduardo made yesterday me think otherwise, but I can't be bothered to find it right now.

You got me Trevor! I should have said some people.

Don't ask me to define "some people". Please don't!!!!

LOL...Second person to state - Trevor...It's Trebor...

Aw, screw it...just Robert or Rob. :)

Oh, and define "some people" :-D

Two cents and that's all, "some people" are going to feel the same and stick to their guns one way or the other.

It's been 18 months. No communication for ~1 year...sure that's pretty unnerving. However, I try to look at the full body of work and actions from the person and logically understand that he's not getting rich here.

Eduardo has been involved with the classic and emulation community for ~20 years. This is not a guy coming out of left field trying to sell you snake-oil.

Did he get in over his head a little? Maybe. Do things sometimes not make sense? Sure. I'm not stating everything that transpired is acceptable, just the notion that with a 20 year reputation on the line, he's leaving a screw-job mark on the community as a swan song, especially where there truly is no real profit, just doesn't add up.

I believe Eduardo will right the wrong(s). His heart is invested in this hobby, especially the ColecoVision platform. His full body of work is truly a labor of love - As I believe is the case with any type of homebrewing for classic systems for the vast majority.

Damn it, NIAD - I will not define majority ;-)

Guys, if you want to send money to Opcode before I received my 2 SGM, YOU ARE JUST CRAZY ! So, please, don't send money before each of us paid receive their SGM.

One solution to this dilemma is for prospective buyers to deal with Opcode Games, not Eduardo. This means that they are invoiced via Paypal by Opcode Games, and remit that way. Then, if nothing has been received before 45 days, they can request a refund.

This kind of offer could be extended to skeptical first and second-run buyers. Eduardo refunds the money already paid, then invoices those parties as Opcode Games. In 45 days, you either get your SGM or your money back.

Oh yes, you can bet it is proprietary....

Ok, hope some of you are felling better now that you have taken things off your chest. With that said, let me start contacting 1st run pre-orders again... I will start with those who never replied...

Oh, and btw, Steve Bender paid for the 10 SGMs, and I bet he must be as eager to get his money back as some of you are of getting your SGM...

And promises not to try and remove his ankle bracelet..

Eduardo obviously realizes that he strained the patience of this community well beyond its limits, and I'm sure he's willing to face the music. All I hope is that we will all maintain a civilized discussion, and that Eduardo will keep us updated regularly over the next few weeks.

I'm sorry for ranting boxpressed, it's just that I have seen much more of this going on around here of late instead of "some people" using the search option and it gets a little old at times. BTW, not to kiss any ass, but you are one of my favs around here.

Aside from that, Opcode is actually back a couple weeks earlier than he had stated, so let's give him a chance to catch up and then everyone can decide for themselves if they feel comfortable enough to do further business with the man.

Ok, I have about 15 SGMs ready to ship. I will be taking them to the post office tomorrow morning. In case I can fulfill all 1st run orders and still have modules left, I will offer them to 2nd run pre-orders.

Have you tried sending a PM to Albert? I myself sent him a PM about the SGM just yesterday...

Jon Provencher and Jonathan Scott seem to have gone off the grid (neither of them replied to the e-mail I sent them last Christmas) so I wouldn't hope for a reply from them if I were you.

Xavier bought some games from me recently, but he's on and off the internet all the time. Quite an unpredictable fellow that one... His username on AtariAge is XavierGames, by the way, and he was on the AA forums today according to his profile.

Cyril seems to be a little less active, but I expect he will reply to you eventually.

The other people on your list are strangers to me. :)

That is great, thanks Luc! BTW, I haven't forgotten you, just picking up the pieces here, will contact you about the games ASAP...

Very good, and if you intend to publish Knightmare yourself, please don't forget that I have something you need for that particular game... ;)
