Colecovision Champ adapter Joystick?

There are plenty of joysticks/controllers/gamepads that you can plug into the Champ Keypad Adapter, but they must have a 9-pin connector. From this point on, you will have to test the functionality of the attached controller to see how everything works... ie: do the directional movements work, does the firebutton work, if there is a second firebutton on the controller does it work. For instance, the controller you have pictured as your avatar should work, but maybe only one firebutton.

Also note that there are two version of the Champ Keypad Adapter that are floating around out there and they both look identical but there is a huge difference. The first version ONLY supports one firebutton so games like Cosmic Avenger that have two different functions for each firebutton will not be completely playable. The second version supports two firebuttons so games like Cosmic Avenger will work properly with it, but it depends on the controller that you attach to the Adapter.

To test which version of the Champ Keypad Adapter that you have, attach a known working Coleco Hand Controller to it and use one of the Controller Test Utilities that are available (if you have an AtariMax MultiCart) or play a game like Cosmic Avenger where the firebuttons perform different functions... drop bombs and shot missiles.

I don't look at this forum much, so if you have further questions, post them in the CV & ADAM Sub-Forum.

By the way, I used Google with "champ joystick colecovision" and I found it. I can only try to imagine what search keywords you tried... http://www.atariage.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/icon_ponder.gif

Is this joystick any good? I know the adapter is useful, but how is the champ joystick?
