Mortal Kombat Arcade Cabinet Replica

Here's Mortal Kombat arcade cab replica I'm working on ( not 100% authentic )

The goal is to make the cab as close as possible as the original , but there will be differences, ie, I used 5/8'' MDF ... not 3/4"

All artworks will be MK1 ( I did used the MK2-3 cab model though )

I will post progress here, so keep an eye here if you are ever interested in this project :)

The original Mortal Kombat is one of my favorite cabinets of all time. Very attractive and functional.. plus I really appreciated the easy PCB access.

Cool project!

Thanks

The funny thing is the first fighting game I ever played was Karate Champ .... And that was John Tobias's inspiration for MK

And what is my all time favorite fighting game? Yep, Mortal Kombat :D

Nice, always a favorite of mine. I've got a short list of cabs I'd like to have. An MK1 or MK2 and a RoadBlasters (Atari) are at the top.

Those kinds of arcade cabs are pretty hard to come by in my area .... That's why I choose to make one myself

Ebay was out of question due to high shipping and HIGH customs fees :|

Their last MK is really nice!

Looks really great. Do you have a background in woodworking at all, or did you just follow some instructions really well? I've wanted to build a cabinet (before I moved into an apartment that can't hold one), but didn't have the hardware for shaping the boards.

I'm actually following a woodworking course.... We make furniture using Tenon/Mortise for most of the time

All you need to get is a router, jigsaw

I can even assist you if you ever need help/advices

Cool. I took a couple years of woodworking classes back in gradeschool, so I do at least have a dim hope of building a cabinet if I ever started. The tools are the main issue for me.

Are you using a hand-held jigsaw? And do hand-held routers exist, or are you using a table-mounted router? Whatever you're using, that looks really impressive.

I used those tools

- a small benchsaw ( optional but very usefull) Otherwise, ask Home Depot to make your cut

- Makita Router ( for t-molding slot)

- DeWalt Jigsaw (I used this all the way, love this tool)

I will post more pics including how it was assembled... Really not the same way people are offen using online and its alot more simplier

Yesterday. only a few minor works has been done

As you can see in those pics, the MK logo will be shown trough the speaker grills (not installed yet)

I've put a Red transparent film over the dragon logo wich the light show through

I changed the monitor to a widescreen,... mainly cause I will play MK9 in this cab....... but.. I kind of regret my choice in the end...

I think I'll go back to a 4:3 screen....

Could you please send me your plans? Did you write them down step by step? I've been looking around for plans from everyone that has built a machine.
